Ch 5: When the Merman Turns Into a Disabled O

Chapter 5

Yu Su’s fingers hid inside the long sleeve of his shirt. Chi Yanxing glanced at him and, with practiced ease, picked up the small mermaid who still couldn’t walk.

The sudden sensation of floating made Yu Su struggle to find his balance. He quickly lifted his hand, half resting it on Chi Yanxing’s broad shoulder, his movements as light as a feather.

Even so, Chi Yanxing still felt his pheromones stir slightly.

This sensation wasn’t the same as an uncontrollable urge for destruction; it was more like the endless stillness of a dead sea suddenly disturbed by the flick of a fish tail.

The murky water became clearer, and the stagnant undercurrent began to surge again. It felt as though a long-standing burden had been lifted, and it was wonderfully hard to let go of.

Chi Yanxing looked at Yu Su’s face, which seemed to be lost in thought, and suddenly felt that AO gene matching wasn’t completely devoid of humanity. At least it allowed one to believe in the favor of fate once more.

The housekeeper cleared his throat a couple of times, breaking his master’s “staring at wife” mode. “Sir?”

Chi Yanxing immediately looked up, and the previously withdrawn Yu Su also followed the sound, seeing a friendly-looking man standing before them.

Who was this person? Another human suddenly appearing?

The housekeeper, receiving Yu Su’s puzzled gaze, simply said, “Hello, nice to meet you. I am Mr. Chi’s housekeeper. You can just call me Uncle He.”

“Uh, hello Uncle He, I’m Yu Su.”

After greeting, Yu Su noticed a strange chair behind the housekeeper.

“What’s that?”

Chi Yanxing didn’t stop walking. He carefully placed Yu Su in the wheelchair before explaining, “This is called a wheelchair. With this, it’ll be easier for you to do things on your own when no one is around.”

Yu Su nodded, as if understanding. He looked at the control buttons beside the wheelchair and was about to reach out to try them when the chair suddenly moved on its own. He looked up to find that it was Chi Yanxing who was pushing it.

Before Yu Su could ask, Chi Yanxing seemed to know what he was going to say.

“It’s fully automatic, but there’s a stretch of sand outside, so it’s not safe for you to use it just yet. We’ll practice when we get back.”

Yu Su had no choice but to say, “Alright, thank you. May good things always come your way.”

The housekeeper couldn’t hold back a small laugh, but quickly covered it with a cough, just barely sparing his master’s face.

Chi Yanjxng gritted his teeth, silently chanting “This is my omega” three times in his mind.

Yu Su, oblivious to the turbulence behind him, sighed deeply as he heard the sound of the waves from afar. Ah, the sea, the sea… it looks like it’s going to become my home.

Chi Yanxing didn’t lie to him. The road they were leaving on was paved with stone slabs, bumpy and connecting to a small stretch of beach. Yu Su shifted slightly in the wheelchair and saw a black car parked nearby. That should be the one to pick them up.

Chi Yanxing didn’t speak again until they reached the car. Yu Su had slowly become accustomed to the man’s mood swings. The tall driver, however, greeted them warmly when they approached, then carefully placed the wheelchair assistant by the car door, seemingly well-prepared.

Once they were both settled inside, the car started moving, leaving the private beach. Yu Su felt a mix of emotions. He had so unknowingly stepped into the human world.

Chi Yanxing immediately took the documents from Butler He and started handling official business. Yu Su glanced at his slightly pursed lips and, for some reason, felt that this man resembled a fish called a pufferfish.

Before Yu Su even moved, Chi Yanxing was already looking quite agitated, but if left alone for a while, he’d recover and return to normal.

What a strange human being, Yu Su sighed inwardly. If they were really living together, could they get along peacefully?

The car drove onto the coastal highway. It was a remote area, sparsely populated, with few cars. Yu Su absentmindedly looked at the tall trees on either side and thought that maybe there could be another way for them to interact…

The Omega was facing the window, silent, while Chi Yanxing had already finished reading three documents. The other man still hadn’t moved.

Butler He, noticing the situation through the rearview mirror, subtly motioned for his master to say something to prevent the sensitive Omega from sitting there in silence.

Chi Yanxing didn’t know if he had received the butler’s hint, or if he simply felt the rising unease within him. In any case, he cleared his throat, temporarily putting aside the devilish thoughts about “good people living in peace”.

He reached out and tapped the armrest beside Yu Su’s wheelchair. “Yu Su.”

Yu Su didn’t look back, lazily humming in acknowledgment, more boss-like than his actual boss.

Chi Yanxing wasn’t angry. Perhaps he was used to even more absurd situations, and this level of irritation couldn’t really hurt him for now. So, he continued, “What do you want to eat? Once we get back to the city, we can grab something to eat.”

Butler He listened, feeling emotional, both relieved and proud.

Yu Su’s scattered light golden hair was sticking to his cheek as he heard the mention of food, and only then did he turn his head. “I want to eat fish.”

Chi Yanxing nodded and told the driver the address of a restaurant.

Just as he finished, he turned around and saw the flickering look in Yu Su’s eyes. Chi Yanxing instinctively leaned back slightly, alert. “Do you have any other requests? You can tell me all at once…” According to their agreement, he would try to fulfill whatever was needed.

To his surprise, Yu Su seemed to be waiting for him to say this. Without missing a beat, he said, “Well, do we really have to live together in the future?”

Chi Yanxing, however, was cautious and didn’t answer. He feared Yu Su might say something like, “I’m not eating your food, so I have no obligation to cooperate with you,” which would be infuriating.

Yu Su waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t be nervous, I’ve already mentally prepared myself. And since you brought me out, you have to take responsibility for me—”

Chi Yanxing interrupted him. “Of course I’ll take responsibility. While we’re still under the agreement, I’ll meet all your safety, living needs, and even your entertainment needs. I’ll satisfy them all without limit.”

As long as you let me bite you.

Yu Su processed the information and continued, “What I mean is, I think you’re not that bad…”

As soon as these words came out, Chi Yanxing raised his hand to stop the conversation. Yu Su watched as Chi Yanxing pressed a button, instantly creating a separation between the front and back of the car.

“Continue,” Chi Yanxing said nonchalantly, sitting up straight, ready for Yu Su to continue with his praise.

Yu Su, as expected, obliged, “You’re a nice person, and importantly, you’re good-looking. In this short time, though we’ve had some friction, just looking at your face makes me forget all the anger.”

Chi Yanxing felt something was off, but Yu Su began reciting his lines again, “You don’t know, our living habits are really very different…”

“How so? Do you snore when you sleep or get up in the middle of the night sleepwalking?” The Alpha instinctively took the high ground.

“Of course not!” Yu Su widened his eyes. How could he, such a delicate little merman, have such an embarrassing habit? How could Chi Yanxing even say something like that?

Yu Su glanced at the other man’s long legs and then at his equally meticulously crafted face, which immediately helped him calm his breathing. “You seem a bit difficult to talk to, but I’ve noticed that as long as I look at your face, I can calm down quickly.”

Chi Yanxing’s chest rose and fell as he took a slow breath. “Go on.”

“You’re handsome, but I’m not bad either. In the future, if we have friction, we can sit face to face for a while. You look at my face, and I’ll look at yours. I’m sure we’ll have no conflict!”

Maybe they’d even eat more rice, Yu Su silently added in his heart.

The driver in front suddenly shivered. “Butler He, why do I feel like the temperature in the car dropped suddenly?”

Butler He, calm as ever, adjusted the air conditioning. “It’s definitely just your imagination.”

“Oh… by the way, that Mr. Yu really is…”

Butler He answered, “He’s beautiful, right?”

The driver nodded vigorously.

“Exactly, he’s someone else’s.”

The driver: “…”

Back Seat

The more Yu Su thought about it, the more he felt that it was a feasible idea. He casually rested his arm on the wheelchair, leaning closer to Chi Yanxing. “So, what do you think?”

“Very good,” Chi Yanxing answered flatly, so unbothered that he could almost imagine himself sitting there looking like a fool.

Yu Su clapped his hands happily. “Right! You think it works too. Then I… huh?”

Before he could finish, a familiar, subtle scent spread through the back seat. Yu Su, without thinking, reached out to touch the back of his wheelchair, only to find his hand covered in moisture—salty and wet.

It was the ocean scent he was most familiar with.

He looked at Chi Yanxing, who had unknowingly closed his eyes and furrowed his brow. Yu Su was startled. “Hey, Chi Yanxing, what’s wrong?!”

Yu Su reached out to touch the man’s forehead, but Chi Yanxing quickly grabbed his wrist with a swift motion.

Chi Yanxing stiffly pushed Yu Su back into his wheelchair, then reached into the back seat and pulled out a tube of blue medication, injecting it into his arm without even blinking.

Yu Su froze.

Could his words have hurt that much?

The seaside vacation villa was nearly three hours from the bustling city center. Although they were only halfway there, the ocean was already far behind them, and the harmonious, soothing energy of the sea had long been left behind in their memories.

Before Chi Yanxing came to the vacation villa for rest and recovery, his pheromones were already in a very unstable state. Now, although Yu Su was by his side, they hadn’t marked each other or had any physical contact. It was like tossing away the old medication but not yet taking the new one, leaving his natural pheromones difficult to control, and they suddenly surged back with force.

The car was still driving normally, and Yu Su, who had been happily chatting with himself, didn’t notice anything unusual. Chi Yanxing tossed the empty syringe into the recycling bin at his feet and leaned back, letting out a deep sigh of relief.

The injection was timely, and everything was back to normal.

The air was quiet for a while before Chi Yanxing finally turned his head to look at Yu Su, who was nervously staring at him.

The Alpha’s voice sounded no different from usual, still cold and clear: “Did I scare you?”

Yu Su quickly shook his head, then slowly nodded.

He had indeed been a little scared.

“Chi Yanxing…”

“Mm?”

“You… are you sick?”

“Probably.”

“That thing you just injected—was that your medication?”

“Yes, sort of.”

“Will it get better?”

“It won’t.”

Yu Su’s brows furrowed, and his light blue eyes, when filled with sadness, seemed to fog over with moisture—both pitiful and adorable.

But before he could compose himself, he heard Chi Yanxing continue, “That injection won’t fix me. Yu Su, you’re the only cure for me.”

Yu Su shuddered all over.
