Ch 18: When the Merman Turns Into a Disabled O

Chapter 18

By the time they reached the company entrance, someone at a window-side desk exclaimed, “Holy crap?! Am I seeing things??”

It was early morning, and most people were still half-asleep. Only one or two replied lazily.

“Stop yelling. Screaming won’t get you a raise.”

“If you’ve got time, take a nap. I heard there’s a meeting later…”

“No, seriously, everyone! I just saw the boss personally escort someone to work! He even carried them out of the car!!! You have to see this!!!”

No sooner had he finished speaking than a crowd had gathered by the windows. The once sluggish group of employees now looked like they’d been injected with adrenaline.

“Holy—!”

“Wow…”

“I need to sleep again and reset my brain.”

The bespectacled woman adjusted her glasses thoughtfully. “Could this…be the boss’s perfect match?”

A thunderous declaration.

“Probably… Otherwise, they wouldn’t get this kind of treatment…”

“So that’s the legendary ‘80%’?”

“Walking sideways, huh?”

“Seriously, shut up if you want to keep your job,” someone muttered, rubbing their face. “Today’s going to be eventful.”

And it wasn’t just their department that had noticed. The main elevator carrying the two had barely reached the top floor before word had spread through the entire company.

By the time the mirror-like elevator doors opened, a chorus of exaggerated greetings erupted from outside: “Good morning, Mr. Chi!”

Yu Su jumped in fright, only to feel the soothing comfort of an Alpha’s head pat.

“Mm,” Chi Yanxing acknowledged. Then, with a calm voice, he added, “Let me introduce you.”

With one hand, he gently pushed Yu Su forward.

“This is my Omega.”

The sound of sharp intakes of breath filled the air, with Yu Su’s being the loudest.

“Chi, Yan, Xing!”

The assistants and secretaries nearly dropped to their knees at the force of that shout.

Yu Su hurriedly whispered, “Can you at least act a little more reserved in public?”

President Chi: “…”

This was all too familiar.

As he walked toward his office, he said to Yu Su, “Even if I don’t say anything, they’ll still smell my pheromones on you. If I do say it, not only will they smell it, but they’ll also know. Then, no matter where you go in this building, no one will stop you.”

An inexplicable sense of shame washed over Yu Su. Alright, I get it. Now shut up.

“I have a few meetings to attend later. There are small cakes and snacks in the office—eat something if you’re hungry. There’s a computer on the desk; play games, watch movies, do whatever you want. If you want to go out, that’s fine, but don’t leave the building. I’ll take you to a nearby restaurant for lunch at noon.” Chi Yanxing, for once, actually said a long string of words to explain things.

Yu Su was still processing that unexpected public declaration from earlier. Absentmindedly, he responded, “Got it, Chi—Dad—Dad——”

The nearly 1.9-meter-tall Alpha almost crashed into the doorframe.

“…Can you be normal for once?”

Calling him “Dad” was ridiculous.

Yu Su waved a hand nonchalantly. “Okay, okay, got it.”

President Chi felt thoroughly brushed off.

“It was just an ordinary day. That morning, I saw my boss bring an Omega to work. From afar, that Omega looked stunning, though they seemed to have some difficulty moving. But none of that mattered—because that face, that was exactly the face I imagined the CEO’s spouse would have.”

The rapid clacking of a keyboard stopped as the final period was typed.

Someone nearby whispered, “Done with your work log?”

The girl with glasses responded calmly, “Yep, finished.”

“I still can’t quite believe it… The boss actually found an Omega. And it looks like this one has an extremely high compatibility with him. It’s been two hours already, and not a single photo has leaked out. I bet everyone upstairs is treading carefully, serving him like royalty.”

“You didn’t step out just now? When the boss walked through the lobby, the whole place smelled like a refreshing sea breeze. I’ve worked here for years and never knew that his deep-sea pheromones—usually strong enough to drown someone—could actually be this gentle.”

“Probably because that ‘80%’ guy reeled the boss in and made him take a bite.”

“Exactly. No surprise that he’s being spoiled to this extent. If I had waited years just to find someone like that, I’d probably worship them like an ancestor too.”

At that moment, said “ancestral little fish” was struggling to stab a small cake with a fork.

Chi Yanxing was genuinely busy. He had barely stayed in the office before rushing off to meetings. But now that they were closer, Yu Su didn’t feel the same clear sense of separation as when he was at home.

“Am I really going to have to stay by Chi Yanxing’s side from now on?” Yu Su took a bite of cream. “I don’t mind, but what if he finds me annoying…?”

But Yu Su had never been one to dwell on worries. After finishing most of his cake, he reached out and switched on the nearby computer.

“Seriously, what’s so fascinating about this thin little human gadget that has Chi Yanxing so obsessed?”

He swiped his fingers across the screen—and was met with only two icons. One labeled Children’s Videos, the other Children’s Games.

…Who designed this? Did he really look that much like a kid?

Fuming, Yu Su clicked the first icon—and then… was instantly captivated by the colorful animations playing on the screen.

The assistant, pretending to pass by outside, stole a glance through the half-open glass window. Only after confirming that the Omega—reeking of the sea—was happily playing on the computer did he let out a breath of relief.

Earlier, the big boss had messaged him, saying he was bringing a “kid” along. He had thought it was a literal child. Turns out, the “kid” and what normal people considered a “kid” were completely different things.

That sickeningly affectionate nickname made the assistant fully realize this person’s status.

No wonder—last time, the “60%” guy didn’t even get to step inside the office door.

Yu Su ended up watching several episodes of cartoons, but Chi Yanxing still hadn’t returned. Bored, he clicked open an animated movie instead.

An hour later, a wheelchair suddenly rolled out of the CEO’s office in a hurry. Yu Su fumbled with the controls, and only after he was fully out of the enclosed space did he finally let out a long sigh of relief—though he still felt a lingering chill in his heart.

“Chi Yanxing… Chi Yanxing…”

He urgently needed his deep-sea bomb to soothe his frightened little soul.

As lunchtime approached, employees hurried out from the meeting rooms, flooding the hallways. Yu Su, however, stuck to the corridor, heading in the opposite direction.

And just like that, a clear empty zone formed around him.

“Why are they looking at me like I’m a predator…?”

Yu Su glanced to the side. I’m not underwater right now, my fangs and claws are tucked away. Sitting in a wheelchair, I should look as harmless as possible… right?

But that wasn’t important.

When Yu Su spotted Chi Yanxing at the back of the group, he straightened his posture and couldn’t help but call out, “Chi Yanxing!”

The surrounding air seemed to hit the pause button—then, as if fast-forwarding, the entire bright and spacious top-floor hallway cleared out in just ten seconds.

The named CEO remained unruffled. “What’s wrong? Weren’t you just using the computer?”

Every computer in the office was linked to his phone—he knew exactly when Yu Su turned on any device.

But Yu Su had no idea just how deep an Alpha’s need for control ran. His mind was still fixated on what he had just seen. “That computer had horror movies!”

It was absolutely terrifying for a fish!

Chi Yanxing’s expression darkened. “Horror movies?”

His assistant wouldn’t be that careless… How did horror movies end up on Yu Su’s personal computer?

As Yu Su trailed behind Chi Yanxing, pushing his wheelchair forward, he said, “It’s true! I’m not lying! I don’t even dare to stay in the office alone anymore. No way, no way, I’m not staying inside this afternoon either. I’m going to stick with you. If you’re busy with meetings, I’ll just wait outside for you!”

An Omega being this clingy after a temporary marking should have made Chi Yanxing feel satisfied and fulfilled. But somehow, Yu Su’s clinginess felt… different.

For a fleeting moment, Chi Yanxing had the odd feeling that he was nothing more than a walking food reserve for the other.

But a perfect match was not something he could ignore. So, Alpha pulled up his schedule on his phone and saw that his first meeting in the afternoon was with a visitor—Chairman Xu of the Xu Corporation, Xu Yuan Shan, a well-known Alpha in the industry.

Seeing this, Chi Yanxing expressionlessly turned off his phone.

Lunchtime.

Yu Su sat at the spacious dining table, watching as Chi Yanxing, with smooth and graceful movements, placed a fish fillet onto his plate. The fish skin was crispy on the outside and tender inside, the aroma carrying across the table.

Taking advantage of the Omega being occupied with eating, Chi Yanxing got straight to the point, “You really don’t want to be alone?”

Yu Su, cheeks puffed full, nodded repeatedly. Chi Yanxing continued, “Alright then. But I have a meeting with a former business partner in the afternoon. If you want to come with me, there’s a small terrace right outside the reception room on the top floor where you can wait.”

Yu Su, unaware of any deeper meaning, replied casually, “That’s fine. As long as I can see you, I won’t interrupt your work. I just got scared too badly today. Give me two days to adjust, and I promise I won’t be clingy anymore—”

Before he could finish his sentence, Chi Yanxing smoothly redirected the piece of fish in his chopsticks back to his own plate.

Yu Su, still chewing, followed the movement of Chi Yanxing’s chopsticks with his gaze.

What? He was being so understanding and mature, and yet Chi Yanxing was still displeased?

This Alpha is so hard to please.

Even so, the difficult-to-please Alpha still dutifully escorted his freshly fed Omega back to the top floor of the company before the lunch break ended.

Without pause, Chi Yanxing opened the door to his private lounge and instructed, “It’s time for your nap. I’ll be right outside. I’ll wake you when we leave in the afternoon.”

Only then did Yu Su nod in reassurance.

After making sure the Omega was lying down obediently, Chi Yanxing gently closed the door and took a few steps to the plush sofa. Picking up the laptop Yu Su had been using earlier, he scanned through its contents.

The Alpha meticulously checked twice but found no trace of any horror movies. What he did find, however, was the half-finished film Yu Su had been watching.

“…The Little Mermaid?”

Chi Yanxing dragged the progress bar back and forth, finally piecing the situation together.

So… Yu Su had been scared by the mermaid turning into sea foam?
