Chapter 31
The supervisor, noticing Jian Raokong’s arrival, hurried over to have another cup of coffee served.
Chi Yanxing glanced briefly at their clasped hands before saying, “Young Master Jian, here to inspect the store today?”
Jian Raokong seemed to realize himself and withdrew his gaze from Yu Su, smiling. “No, actually—I came to pick out a gift for Dr. Wen. His birthday’s coming up soon.”
Chi Yanxing nodded lightly. “I’m sure Dr. Wen will be very pleased.”
Yu Su suddenly brightened in understanding. “Ohhh—you’re that peach blossom of Dr. Wen’s, aren’t you?”
Jian Raokong blinked. “Peach… blossom?”
Chi Yanxing reached over and ruffled Yu Su’s hair, explaining smoothly, “Apologies, he means no offense—he just doesn’t always understand how certain words sound.”
Jian Raokong laughed softly. “No problem. Mr. Yu is quite adorable.”
Chi Yanxing said, “Then why don’t you go ahead and choose your gift? I’ll stay and look around with my omega a bit longer.”
Jian Raokong, ever tactful, didn’t insist. He didn’t even touch his coffee. “Of course. Everything you purchase today is on the house—consider it a welcome gift for Mr. Yu.”
They were all insiders in the same circle, so naturally no one would fuss over minor gains or losses. Chi Yanxing nodded.
“Wen Bie applied this morning to be transferred off the collaboration team. I didn’t approve it.”
Between smart people, a few exchanges were enough to settle the favor. After thanking him briefly, Jian Raokong was about to leave and not disturb the couple’s private time. But before he’d taken more than two steps, he heard the stunningly beautiful, delicate omega behind him say:
“…I thought humans were supposed to be ugly. Turns out they’re all incredibly handsome.”
The young alpha, who had his back to Chi Yanxing, suddenly narrowed his eyes.
In the end, Yu Su didn’t buy anything from the shop—he only picked out an exquisitely made gift box, inlaid with pearls and mother-of-pearl.
Chi Yanxing asked what he wanted it for. Yu Su wagged a finger. “Se-cret!”
The house-kept mermaid now had a little secret of his own. The possessive alpha couldn’t quite describe how that made him feel, but no matter what, the most important thing was that Yu Su was happy living in the human world.
Chi Yanxing said, “Still want to keep playing? If not, we can go home. I’m not going back to the company today.”
Yu Su was just about to say okay, when he suddenly thought of something.
“Chi Yanxing… is there, is there that kind of shop here?”
“…What kind of shop?”
As they walked, Yu Su said, “The kind that sells sticky, gooey stuff…”
Alpha: “……”
“What sticky stuff?”
Seeing Chi Yanxing’s expression, Yu Su had no idea what he’d misunderstood, but the matter of his tail was important. Bracing himself, he said,
“I mean those beauty shops that little girls and handsome guys love! I looked it up online a few days ago—what I want is definitely sold there!”
Chi Yanxing finally relaxed. A beauty shop… He’d thought Yu Su had learned something strange.
“There’s one on the floor below. What do you want to buy?”
Once he said it out loud, Yu Su felt much more at ease. He sighed with a troubled look.
“Ah… I want to buy some seaweed masks. My tail hasn’t been maintained in a long time, and I’m kind of worried.”
Whenever Yu Su mentioned his tail, Chi Yanxing felt an inexplicable surge of excitement.
“You take care of your tail by applying tail masks?”
“Yeah.” Yu Su blinked. “If I hadn’t been washed ashore, I’d have already used up all my stored supplies by now.”
Chi Yanxing rubbed his fingers together.
“Alright. We’ll buy them. How much do you need?”
Yu Su hummed thoughtfully. “In human units… about two large barrels?”
The handsome customer who wanted to buy two large barrels of seaweed mask was promptly escorted into the beauty salon’s small storage room.
The beautician pushed open the door.
“Sir, all of our masks are here—seaweed ones, as well as various plant-based formulas. They’re all excellent products.”
It wasn’t uncommon for male omegas to come in for maintenance, so the beautician continued,
“However, these products have short shelf lives and are meant for immediate use, so we recommend buying only a portion first.”
Facing an obvious SVIP who clearly spared no expense, the beautician—long accustomed to dealing with wealthy clients—was fully focused and didn’t dare deceive or oversell.
Before Chi Yanxing could speak, Yu Su hurriedly said,
“It’s fine, it’s fine! Just pack everything up for me. I have a big face—it uses a lot of product!”
The beautician looked at Yu Su’s palm-sized face: “……”
The alpha stubbornly cleaned up after his omega:
“…He doesn’t shop much, and he wanted to come buy this himself, so he’d like to stock up. Go ahead and pack it. Whatever you have in stock, pack all of it.”
Thinking back to the size of Yu Su’s tail, Chi Yanxing felt that two large bags would barely last two or three applications.
The beautician hesitated, then called over the warehouse manager, who went to pack everything with a dazed expression.
Yu Su had finally accomplished something he’d wanted to do for a long time. His eyes sparkled.
“Thank you, Chi Yanxing! I’m going to apply it as soon as we get home tonight!”
The alpha responded with a calm “Mm,” but in his heart he was already plotting what excuse he could use to touch the fish tail he’d long been coveting.
After sweeping through the beauty salon, Chi Yanxing personally carried the mermaid’s seaweed masks for him.
“I’m so happy. This is my favorite thing I bought today. I couldn’t even wait for store delivery—I have to keep it right in front of my eyes at all times. Sorry to trouble you~” Yu Su said, hugging his second-favorite little gift box.
Chi Yanxing looked at him. “Since I’ve worked so hard, could you agree to one thing?”
Yu Su tilted his head. “What is it?”
Chi Yanxing lowered his voice. “Let me touch your fish tail, okay?”
—
“I’m terribly sorry, Mr. Jian. The shop’s stock has already been sold out…”
Jian Raokong frowned. “Sold out? Don’t you have a small emergency warehouse?”
The beautician said miserably, “We do, but two customers just came by and cleared out everything in the warehouse…”
Jian Raokong paused. “What kind of person buys that much seaweed mask?”
“Two very handsome gentlemen. A tall alpha bought it for the small omega beside him. Please pass on to Mr. Yu that when the next shipment arrives, I’ll personally deliver it!”
The beautician hurriedly promised—this was a long-time major client of the shop, and they absolutely couldn’t afford to offend him.
Jian Raokong wasn’t one to make things difficult. His expression relaxed. “It’s fine. Just have it delivered then. Same address as usual.”
“Of course, of course—”
As the beautician saw Jian Raokong out, Chi Yanxing and Yu Su were already about to disappear around the corner by the escalator.
She exclaimed, “It’s those two gentlemen!”
Jian Raokong looked up and saw the famously aloof industry figure carrying two large bags of face masks that completely clashed with his image, while the small omega beside him hugged the shop’s gift box and smiled up at the man as they talked.
Jian Raokong withdrew his gaze, walked a few steps out, and picked up his phone.
“Hello, Dad, it’s me. The thing you wanted is sold out—I’ve asked them to deliver the new stock tomorrow… Mm, I’m out right now. I just stopped by the main jewelry store and came here on the way.”
Whatever was said on the other end of the phone, Jian Raokong responded twice with acknowledgment.
“It’s fine. I won’t misjudge him—he’s a doctor, and a very good omega. If there’s a chance, I’ll go get tested and see how our AO compatibility looks.”
Just before hanging up, Jian Raokong suddenly added, “I’ll come home after I finish my errands today. Remember to call Father back as well—I have something a bit strange I want to discuss with you both.”
“Mm, alright. I’ll hang up first, then.”
Jian Raokong put his phone away and watched as the two figures ahead disappeared completely into the closing elevator.
–
Mid-mountain area, villa.
Uncle He stepped aside to let the omega who had his head lowered enter, then looked toward the alpha following closely behind.
“Good afternoon, sir. Did you enjoy shopping?”
Chi Yanxing nodded. “Have the things arrived?”
Uncle He smiled. “Just a step ahead of you—the delivery truck left moments ago.”
“Don’t touch what’s inside for now,” Chi Yanxing instructed. “Yu Su probably has his own plans.”
Uncle He acknowledged and took the items from the alpha’s hands. “These are…?”
“Things Yu Su needs for his tail. Put them all in my room.”
Seeing the two young men growing closer by the day, Uncle He couldn’t help showing a gratified smile. “Mr. Yu will understand your intentions.”
Chi Yanxing didn’t respond. The road ahead was long—getting someone into the same bed was hard enough, let alone when he hadn’t even touched the little fish tail yet.
Yu Su, walking ahead, hadn’t heard their exchange. He paused in front of the elevator and the spiral staircase, hesitated for a moment, then turned back and raised a hand toward Chi Yanxing.
“Come on, Chi Yanxing—give me a hug.”
Uncle He smiled at the omega. Treating a top-tier alpha like a mobile wheelchair—only this little mermaid could pull that off.
Yu Su’s legs weren’t exactly factory-installed equipment. After walking most of the day, the soreness inevitably set in. By dinnertime he didn’t even go downstairs; Chi Yanxing brought the food up to him instead.
“How is it? Feeling any better?” he asked.
Yu Su swallowed a spoonful of soothing mung bean porridge. “Still kind of sore and swollen. After I apply the tail mask tonight, I’ll probably need to sleep in the pool for a whole night to recover.”
Chi Yanxing said, “Do you have to go to the pool? Won’t it be cold at night?”
“The ocean is much colder than a pool,” Yu Su replied casually. “I’m used to it.”
Chi Yanxing pondered for a moment. “The fish tank I used to raise fish in was custom-made with the best stone. After the sea fish were moved out, Uncle He already cleaned it thoroughly. It’s about half the size of a balcony, and you can even bask in the moonlight at night. Why not consider that instead?”
Yu Su sat on the small sofa in the bedroom, stirring his porridge. “I’m already on your turf—I can’t run anywhere. What are you so nervous about?”
The alpha moved his lips and said quietly, “If you go down there, I won’t be able to stop myself from getting up in the middle of the night to look. If I get up at night, I won’t rest well. If I don’t rest well, I won’t have the energy to work. If I don’t have the energy to work, I won’t be able to support you properly. And then you won’t be able to buy your seaweed masks or your little treasure boxes anymore.”
Chi Yanxing half-jokingly, half-seriously rattled off a string of nonsense just to keep his little fish close—but Yu Su only caught one part of it.
He drew out a long, winding “Oh~.” “So that’s why for the past half month I kept feeling like someone was peeking at me—turns out it was you? You’ve really developed an occupational habit from raising fish. You used to get up at night to watch those wild little fish, and now that you’re raising a mermaid, you’re still getting up to look?”
Chi Yanxing said, “…Back then, I watched the fish because I was upset and couldn’t sleep.”
Yu Su nodded solemnly. “And now?”
“Now I’m in a good mood. Yu Su, you’re this beautiful—can’t a bare, hairless human admire you a little?”
Chi Yanxing was getting better and better at hitting Yu Su’s weak spots. It was practically a precision strike.
Sure enough, the beauty-first mermaid froze. He set down the big bowl of porridge.
“Fine. We’ll apply the tail mask on the balcony. After that, I’ll sleep there too. That should finally put your mind at ease, right?”
Chi Yanxing smoothly replied with an “Mm.”
When there was something to look forward to, time seemed to pass especially slowly. After night fell, Yu Su finally spoke up.
“Chi Yanxing, where did Uncle He put my stuff?”
“I’ve already set everything up on the balcony. The water’s been filled in the tank too—you can go in anytime.”
Yu Su said “Oh,” watching as Chi Yanxing walked over to open the balcony door for him.
“Want me to carry you?” Chi Yanxing asked.
“No, no,” Yu Su waved him off and walked past the alpha, then suddenly stopped.
“Last time I went into the water, I didn’t have time to take my clothes off.”
Chi Yanxing heard him speaking from behind.
“So turn around first. I’ll get my clothes sorted this time before getting into the tank.”
Chi Yanxing: “……”
Thankfully, this was a standalone villa.
“…Alright.” The alpha really did turn around. “I won’t look. Go ahead.”
Yu Su was still a little nervous—after all, he’d promised the human he’d let him touch his tail. Ever since he’d come of age, no one else had touched it before.
Soft rustling sounds came from behind him. With his back turned, the alpha’s eyes darkened, filled with a dangerous look Yu Su couldn’t see.
A few minutes later, there was a splash. Chi Yanxing waited two more seconds before speaking.
“Done?”
Yu Su blew a few bubbling gurgles in response. Only then did the man turn around.
He walked forward slowly. Piles of seaweed masks were stacked at his feet, and the little mermaid he was raising was inside the transparent tank, adjusting his position.
Submerged in the water, Yu Su flicked the tip of his tail to find the right leverage, then used his tail fin to lift a small piece of white fabric and pass it over.
Alpha: “What’s this?”
Yu Su lifted his head out of the water. “Being naked feels kind of embarrassing. This is the only thing left—my underwear. Keep it safe for me.”
Feel free to buy me a coffee/show your support on ko-fi! Thank you ❤
