Chapter 27
The pale yellow bedsheets glowed softly. Yu Su lay sprawled on top, his silk pajamas partially slipped off, revealing much of his fair shoulder and the hollow of his collarbone from curling his head down.
“…I’ll bite you, bite you, cold and aloof weirdo…”
The alpha, now fully awake, thought: cold and aloof weirdo—could he be talking about me?
Chi Yanxing sat up and gently lifted Yu Su’s head back onto the pillow.
“Bite me?”
If I bite you, it’s physiological necessity. If you bite me, it’s probably for survival.
Chi Yanxing carefully pried open Yu Su’s jaw and pulled out the bitten finger.
He didn’t know when he’d fallen asleep last night, still humming a lullaby-like tune, drifting in and out of a hazy dream.
Yu Su’s usual voice was clear and pure, and combined with the mermaid’s ethereal melody, it was like a sleep aid mixed with a sedative—sending people into a deep, peaceful sleep with a sense of timelessness.
Especially since Yu Su spent the entire night immersed in past memories…
If those memories were truly from the past.
“Golden fish tail… such a coincidence…” Chi Yanxing got out of bed, looking at Yu Su with a complicated expression.
Too bad he hadn’t seen the face clearly—given Yu Su’s unique appearance, he usually could guess about seventy or eighty percent.
Chi Yanxing got up and drew the blackout curtains, creating a perfect environment for Yu Su’s nap, then went downstairs after tidying up.
“Good morning, sir.” Uncle He was wiping a mermaid figurine downstairs.
“Hmm.”
The butler had had a good dream last night and looked rosier than usual.
Though Chi Yanxing also had a similar dream, the abrupt end left him restless.
“Sir, I checked the calendar this morning. Early next month is a very good time. Shall we hold a public banquet to announce Mr. Yu’s existence?”
Chi Yanxing looked up: “Why suddenly interested in this?”
Uncle He mysteriously replied, “Actually, I dreamed last night that you became a father. Since Mr. Yu’s omega pheromones and glands were detected, his reproductive organs must be fine too. Maybe by this time next year, the little young master will be born!”
Chi Yanxing suddenly realized the implication and stiffened.
Yu Su and his… child?
For some reason, the alpha thought of the little chubby fish in his dream—plump and tender, soft enough that even without holding it, he could imagine its fleshy feel.
Uncle He put down his work and placed a prepared teacup in front of Chi Yanxing with a click: “Sir, stop laughing and go chase after your prey!”
Chi Yanxing was silent for a moment: “…I’m not laughing.”
Uncle He: “Okay, okay, no no.”
“…”
After finishing the morning tea, Chi Yanxing finally shook off the obsession with the topic of children. He watched Uncle He busy preparing breakfast for Yu Su and said,
“I had a dream last night too. I dreamed when I was thirteen and went to the beach, you gave me a sand bucket to play with. Did that really happen?”
Uncle He set down the knife, adjusted the tablecloth, and replied, “Yes, there was. Madam was the one who insisted on stuffing it into your hand.”
Chi Yanxing narrowed his eyes. He felt that the butler might offer a new perspective, a breakthrough point from another angle.
So he asked again, “After I went out that time, how did I act when I came back?”
Uncle He had worked for the Chi family for many years and always understood what his master wanted. Without questioning why Chi Yanxing was asking about this, he thought carefully and answered directly, “When you came back, you seemed… very happy. At least during that period, I’d never seen you that excited before.”
Chi Yanxing said, “Was there anything in my sand bucket when I came back?”
“Yes,” Uncle He began counting them off. “There were seashells, bits of coral, and some pretty little stones.”
Shells, coral, stones—
each one exactly the same as in his dreams.
Did that mean the mermaid was real, too?
But for some reason, he hadn’t brought that fish back in the end.
“So I went back to the seaside again the next day?”
Uncle He replied, “Yes. We stayed there for over half a month. From the day after you first came back from the beach, you went out every morning carrying a bucket. When you returned, it was always filled with all kinds of little trinkets. Madam was overjoyed and said you’d finally learned how to have fun.”
Chi Yanxing was silent.
Uncle He thought he hadn’t been detailed enough, so he continued, “At first, it was just pebbles and bits of coral that weren’t worth much. But later, they turned into small pearls and rare shells.”
Chi Yanxing pushed his teacup aside. “And then?”
“There’s more. In the last few days, they all turned into fish. The chairman even praised you, said that you’d just differentiated into an alpha and already had the talent for fishing!”
Chi Yanxing: “…”
“All those fish were edible—delicious, hard to catch, great whether raw or cooked,” Uncle He said proudly. “As expected of a strong alpha—always outstanding wherever he goes.”
Chi Yanxing: “…………”
“So,” he continued slowly, “half of those fish were cooked, and the other half… I took them back to the sea? To feed the fish?”
Uncle He blinked. “Ah, yes, I believe so. Why?”
Chi Yanxing fell silent again, deeply feeling that he’d been played.
That mysterious little fat fish had used its natural ability to provide him with ingredients—then got him to cook them, making the food even tastier, and finally had him personally deliver the meal back.
And he’d done it all happily, like a fool.
Chi Yanxing raised a hand to pinch his brow. He had no idea what kind of spell he’d been under back then.
“Alright, that’s all. You can go.”
Uncle He acknowledged the order and left; there was still fish porridge to prepare in the kitchen for Yu Su.
When Yu Su woke up, the bed beside him was already empty. He had originally slept on the left side, but somehow had ended up on Chi Yanxing’s right. When he reached over to touch his own side, the sheets were completely cold.
Yu Su startled—his sleeping posture couldn’t be that wild, could it? Maybe after Chi Yanxing left, he’d rolled over on his own.
…Yes, that must be it!
Yu Su chose to believe what he preferred. He yawned and glanced around at the decor—every inch of it matched his taste perfectly. “This setup… looks kinda familiar…”
Under the sea, his kind would also indulge their partners endlessly when courting—giving pearls, food, even themselves.
He got up and walked to the master bathroom. Inside, he saw a large soaking tub and two sets of toiletries.
“So, Chi Yanxing dropped the whole contract thing because he’s into me now? No way… we’re both male, how would that even work…” Yu Su muttered, a faint trace of unease flickering in his heart.
“And I don’t even know if he remembered that little mermaid from last night… if he did, what would he think? Still, at least it’d be better than when we first met.”
Thinking of their first encounter, Yu Su winced. The alpha had thrown him straight into the guest room, and when delivering food, coldly explained their relationship and the contract terms—strict, logical, detached. If he’d had his tail back then, Yu Su would’ve flicked it right at his face.
But later…
Later, Doctor Wen had said that Chi Yanxing’s personality was just awkward—that deep down, he was a “sick alpha” who needed to bite an omega.
Yu Su splashed some water on his face, then looked up at his reflection in the mirror.
“Omega, omega… why do I have to be an omega?” he grumbled, clearly disgruntled.
“Human omegas are weak and small… Uncle He said they can even get pregnant. How could I—” Yu Su’s eyes suddenly widened.
He stared at himself in the mirror and swore under his breath.
He was a male mermaid—and a human omega.
Which meant that after transforming into human form… he had a body capable of pregnancy???
Yu Su was belatedly and thoroughly horrified.
When Chi Yanxing arrived at the company, his assistant informed him that a visitor was waiting—heir of the Jian family, a new business partner.
“Did he schedule an appointment?”
The assistant answered respectfully, “Mr. Jian didn’t make a formal one. Actually, Dr. Wen came first, and this Mr. Jian followed right after him.”
Chi Yanxing paused. “Wen Bie came too? Is there a problem with the inhibitor project?”
The assistant said, “Everything’s normal. Dr. Wen said he came here to… take shelter.”
Chi Yanxing: “…”
He immediately understood. He just hadn’t expected that calm, calculating Wen Bie could actually be such a mess when faced with an alpha’s advances.
“I see. Take me to them.”
“Yes, President.”
“I’m telling you, Young Master Jian—our companies are here to cooperate, cooperate! Not arrange a marriage! And you’re only twenty—your best years are still ahead of you! Why waste them on me?” Wen Bie’s voice was tinged with exasperation, a far cry from his usual calm demeanor.
From the reception room came the voice of another young man—magnetic and pleasant to the ear:
“Dr. Wen, you’re not that old yourself. I even heard you did an A–O compatibility test for President Chi not long ago. When will you do one for us two? Once you see the results, maybe you’ll understand just how irresistible you are to me.”
Wen Bie rolled his eyes wordlessly. This young alpha’s words were shockingly straightforward, yet not exactly annoying—every line carried a charm that seemed to seep right into the heart.
Leaning back on the sofa, his crisp white shirt rolled up to the elbows and faint blue veins visible beneath his skin, Wen Bie replied firmly, “No. True feelings can’t be decided by a string of cold data.”
Jian Raokong followed up smoothly, “You’re right. That’s why I’m pursuing you first. When our feelings naturally develop, the test results will just be the cherry on top.”
Wen Bie: “…”
Outside the door, Chi Yanxing almost wanted to applaud this heir. After all these years, no one had managed to deal with this stubborn, single, middle-aged omega. Turned out, everyone had been using the wrong approach—Wen Bie was just an omega who couldn’t handle persistence.
He raised a hand and pushed the door open, locking eyes with Jian Raokong, who was sitting facing the entrance.
Both men inside stood up as he entered. Jian Raokong politely extended a hand. “President Chi, it’s an honor to finally meet you.”
Chi Yanxing gave the handsome young man a brief once-over. There was something oddly familiar about the so-called Young Master Jian’s looks. Without revealing his thoughts, he returned the handshake. “Nice to meet you.”
Wen Bie finally had an excuse to escape—he shot Chi Yanxing a quick wink and slipped off to the pantry under the pretense of fetching drinks, leaving the two alphas alone for their first conversation.
Compared to Chi Yanxing’s reserved demeanor, Jian Raokong was quite outgoing. “Though we’re in the same circle, this is our first formal meeting, President Chi. You’re always a step ahead of the rest of us—you’ve practically joined our fathers’ generation already.”
Chi Yanxing casually replied, “It’s been a while since I last saw Chairman Jian. How’s your father these days?”
Jian Raokong, still fresh out of university, had a bright and open temperament. He laughed heartily, breaking through the stiffness of a first meeting.
“Thank you for asking—he’s doing great. Spends all his time fussing over my dad.”
Chi Yanxing had indeed heard of that story. Jian Raokong’s father, Jian Feng, had built his empire from scratch. Once a famous top alpha in his youth, he had shocked everyone by marrying early—his partner was said to be a male omega who had struggled alongside him during his toughest years. Less than a year after the marriage, they’d had a child.
Back then, people had scoffed at the idea of a ‘washed-up’ omega partner—but now, the Jian family’s name drew envy and admiration everywhere.
Loving parents, a perfect family.
Chi Yanxing sat down on the sofa, tapping his knee with his fingers. “Originally, the inhibitor project was meant to be discussed with Chairman Jian. Didn’t expect you’d take his place. But it seems the young master is quite capable—already interested in our research personnel, too.”
At that, Jian Raokong perked up instantly, like a big dog catching a scent. “The moment I saw him, I just knew he was my omega. But Dr. Wen is really hard to deal with—I’ve been stood up by him several times! Finally caught him this time.”
Chi Yanxing chuckled. “That’s normal. That omega’s as proud as they come. If it weren’t for you, he’d probably spend the rest of his life buried in machines.”
Jian Raokong nodded eagerly. “Right? Oh, by the way, I heard President Chi recently found an omega he likes too. How’s that going? Easy to get along with?”
Both of them being alphas, Chi Yanxing understood the tone perfectly. “Pretty easy to handle,” he said lightly. “Just a bit mischievous.”
Jian Raokong grinned. “I’d never heard about that before! President Chi, maybe you should host a banquet and introduce them. That way, we can all know who to look after in the future.”
Chi Yanxing had already been considering that. After thinking for a moment, he replied, “I’m preparing for it. He hasn’t been in the best health recently, but once the date’s set, I’ll send an official invitation to the Jian family.”
At the mention of poor health, Jian Raokong’s brow furrowed slightly—he recalled the rumor circulating in the circle that President Chi’s omega was disabled.
Just then, Wen Bie returned carrying two cups of coffee. “What are you two talking about? I was waiting for you to shoo this young master away, and you’ve been chatting this whole time.” He set a cup in front of each man.
Chi Yanxing took a sip before replying, “Nothing much. Just congratulating you—looks like you’ve found yourself an alpha.”
Behind his glasses, Wen Bie’s peach blossom eyes arched. “And I haven’t seen much of Mr. Yu lately. What, did you do something bad to him? Bring him by sometime—I’ll give him a check-up.”
Chi Yanxing narrowed his eyes but didn’t respond before Jian Raokong suddenly leaned forward. “Mr. Yu? Which Yu? As in Yu Mei Ren—‘Yu’?”
Both Wen Bie and Chi Yanxing turned to look sharply at the young alpha.
After two or three seconds, Chi Yanxing slowly said, “Yes. Why? Is there a problem, Young Master Jian?”
