Chapter 21
No Alpha could refuse such an invitation.
Chi Yanxing’s expression darkened, and his pheromones surged around them, like a whirlpool in the sea, tightly wrapping Yu Su inside.
His voice was deep and magnetic. “Bite you?”
Yu Su hummed in agreement. “Yeah, just a bite. I first noticed I could use strength on the night I met you—when your pheromones surged twice in one day, and I absorbed them both times. The second time I realized I had improved significantly and could stand on my own was that afternoon after we completed the temporary marking.”
Chi Yanxing listened quietly.
“So I have a theory—what if I can heal your condition, and in return, you can heal mine?” Yu Su suggested.
Chi Yanxing raised a brow. “I’ve never heard of an Alpha biting an Omega and somehow giving them the ability to walk.”
“Well, now you have. So? Wanna give it a try? There’s no one else around—”
Yu Su showed no shyness in his invitation. After all, he wasn’t a pure Omega—his true form was a mermaid. If his inability to walk was due to leaving the sea too soon after transforming, then Chi Yanxing, with his deep-sea pheromones, might be the only one who could help him.
Chi Yanxing lifted his gaze, meeting Yu Su’s eyes. The afternoon sunlight streamed into the transparent sky bridge, illuminating the golden strands of Yu Su’s hair and casting light on the Alpha’s sharp brows and defined nose.
He was breathtakingly handsome—sharp yet elegant, cold yet irresistibly captivating.
Yu Su leaned down toward him, their noses nearly touching before he suddenly spoke. “Chi Yanxing, I’ve noticed before—your eyes… they’re not purely black, are they?”
Chi Yanxing’s throat bobbed slightly. “No, they’re not.”
Yu Su leaned in a bit more, studying them. “They’re like the deepest ocean trench. They look black, but if you scoop up a handful in the sunlight, you can see the underlying color—like deep blue ink…”
Chi Yanxing didn’t blink.
After staring for too long, Yu Su felt strangely uneasy. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Yu Su.”
“What?”
“Sometimes, I really don’t think you’re an Omega at all.”
Yu Su: “…So are you biting me or not? If not, forget it!”
Chi Yanxing didn’t say another word. He was tall, so even with Yu Su sitting on the railing, it barely affected his movements.
He reached up, placing a hand on Yu Su’s neck, and leaned in close, murmuring against his ear, “Alright, then… just one bite.”
Before Yu Su could respond, he felt himself go weak under the intoxicating wave of deep-sea pheromones. His legs, which had been held taut, went slack, his toes brushing against the Alpha’s black leather belt.
“Hiss—”
Chi Yanxing, could you go easy on me?!
The sharp sting of teeth sinking into his gland sent shivers down Yu Su’s spine. A flood of cold, rich pheromones surged into the sensitive gland, washing away the lingering numbness in his legs.
In the thick, humid air of the afternoon, the cool sensation spread through him like a refreshing tide, sending a chill down his back.
Chi Yanxing slowly withdrew his teeth, and before Yu Su could fully react, he instinctively pressed a lingering kiss against the soft skin of his neck.
Yu Su was completely unaware.
–
Chi Yanxing held Yu Su’s hand firmly. “Try again. Take it slow, no rush.”
Yu Su’s face lit up with excitement. He nodded eagerly and carefully took another step forward.
By this time, most of the building’s employees had already left for the day, and the top floor was practically deserted.
In the quiet sky bridge, the sharp tap of a firm shoe sole echoed every few moments. And each time, it was followed by a softer, hesitant step.
Yu Su’s eyes sparkled. “Chi Yanxing! Look! I was right! Your pheromones really work—”
Chi Yanxing, ever the patient support, responded, “Mm. We’ll check with Wen Bie later to see why.”
Yu Su quickly changed the subject. “Oh, come on, it’s a good thing—worry about the details later… By the way! This is the first time I’ve ever walked this much. So this is what it feels like to walk with two legs? It’s nothing like balancing on a knife’s edge… Hehe, Chi Yanxing, tell me—did you buy me shoes made of cotton or something?”
“Those are just fairy tales. There’s no such thing as real mermaids,” the alpha said casually.
Yu Su’s steps stiffened slightly. He tentatively asked, “But… what if they do exist?”
Chi Yanxing glanced at him, then replied slowly, “If they were real, such creatures probably wouldn’t ever be discovered by humans.”
Unhappy with that answer, Yu Su pressed urgently, “But what if there was a fish dumb enough to be discovered?”
“Then it would depend on who discovered them.”
“Then… ugh, just imagine it for a second—if you were by the sea and you came across a beautiful little mermaid, and the mermaid transformed into human form just for you, what would you do?” Yu Su, emboldened by the warm mood, asked more boldly than usual.
Chi Yanxing stepped closer to Yu Su, pulling the arm that clung to him half a step forward as well.
“If I really liked him, then I’d love him whether he had legs or a tail. If it’s a tail, I’d hide it well and carry him away. If it’s legs, I’d walk with him slowly. Either way, I’d never let him turn into sea foam.”
The man’s low voice echoed slightly through the open corridor, solemn and steady, like a vow spoken in a temple.
Yu Su suddenly turned his hand around and held the alpha’s. “Then remember what you just said. No going back. Even though a heartbroken mermaid probably wouldn’t actually turn into sea foam, he would disappear without a trace, never to be found again.”
Chi Yanxing said, “I’ve already deleted that movie. I’ll try to keep you away from that kind of stuff in the future.”
Yu Su: “…”
Just you wait, foolish human—you have no idea what true power is!
When the two came out of the building, the driver had already been waiting for quite some time.
“Ah, sir! I thought you were working overtime with Mr. Yu today—” the driver quickly opened the car door.
After settling Yu Su into the car, Chi Yanxing finally replied, “No. While no one was around, I took him to the rooftop for some rehab.”
The driver was surprised. “Mr. Yu can stand up now??”
Then, realizing the insensitivity, he quickly corrected himself, “Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way…”
Yu Su laughed, “It’s okay. You weren’t at the doctor’s with us. Actually, my legs are fine—it’s just that I need some practice before I can stand up again.”
The driver’s eyes crinkled with joy. “That’s great news! Uncle He will definitely be thrilled!”
Sure enough, Uncle He was ecstatic. When he heard the news, he even went to the kitchen and made fish bone porridge, saying it was to supplement calcium for hardworking Yu Su—completely forgetting that it was actually his master who had done all the hard work.
After dinner, Chi Yanxing returned to his study to work again. Yu Su, now stuffed full, slumped in his wheelchair and took a long time to digest.
Not only had he learned how to walk a little that afternoon, but he had also gotten a very satisfying “guarantee.” Now full and content, he was in a great mood.
While chatting casually with Uncle He, who was clearing the table, Yu Su said, “I saw a photo in Chi Yanxing’s office the other day—he was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, standing in front of the entrance. Did he already look that good when he was a kid?”
Uncle He paused with a bowl in hand and thought for a moment. There was a photo of the young master at the office—one that had been put there back when the old master was still around. When he retired, he left it behind as a keepsake for his son.
He replied, “That was taken when he was little, at the beach. He really didn’t want to take it at the time!”
Yu Su let out a little burp. “Why? He looked so handsome—it’d be a nice keepsake.”
Uncle He tried hard to remember. “Ah, I think the day the photo was taken was the day we were leaving. The young master hadn’t had enough fun and was really upset. He sulked the whole way back.”
After putting the dishes away in the kitchen, Uncle He returned with a cup of hot water and continued, “Maybe he was deeply affected by the ocean. After we came back, he started keeping fish. At first, he had no experience and basically killed every batch. Every time a fish floated belly-up, he would go quiet for days—until the next batch arrived.”
Yu Su took a sip of the water. “Not being able to keep those chubby guys alive made him that sad?”
Uncle He sighed. “Yeah. More than once, I found him standing silently by the fish pond in the middle of the night.”
“What? He even got up at night just to look at them?” Yu Su felt a little sour.
Uncle He gave an authoritative hum in confirmation.
Yu Su quietly took that to heart. So those little wild fish were really that important to Chi Yanxing… Thank goodness he hadn’t eaten them last time, or else Chi Yanxing might have ended up sobbing beside the fish pond in the middle of the night.
The thought of that man crying made Yu Su uneasy.
No, no—that won’t do. Hot guys shouldn’t cry. Hot guys are only good-looking when they’re cool and aloof!
Thinking this, Yu Su turned to Uncle He. “Can I go into Chi Yanxing’s study?”
Uncle He replied, “Of course. There’s nowhere in this villa you can’t go.”
“Great. Then prepare a few snacks for after dinner, will you? I don’t think your master ate much just now. I’ll bring them up and check on him.”
Uncle He was more than happy to help and responded eagerly, “Absolutely, Mr. Yu! Just a moment—I’ll go get it ready right now!”
Yu Su nodded, quietly thinking about how to comfort the man, while also musing to himself—
It wasn’t that he didn’t know how to raise fish, he just hadn’t chosen the right species.
Yu Su pinched the soft flesh of his cheek. Wasn’t he himself the perfect example of a healthy, lively one?
