Chapter 61
The barrage of comments filled the screen, a tight wall of text that almost blocked the entire livestream.
[What the heck? How did he dodge that? Can anyone explain this to me?]
[Is the commentator an idiot? Who explains a game like this?]
[Anyone can see he dodged it! Why aren’t you explaining why?!]
[Is this Russian guy blind or something? Did he miss his skill?]
[It’s obvious this guy has never played Kings’ Tomb. ‘Mountain Splitter’ is a lock-on skill, okay? As long as the target is in range, it automatically locks on, so there’s no way to miss it.]
[So how did Blink dodge it, then?!]
[Obviously, it was a prediction! He moved before Yevgeniev even charged, and he wasn’t in the ‘Mountain Splitter’ range, so it didn’t lock on!]
[You think that’s a prediction? I don’t buy it.]
[I don’t buy it either. Looks like a lucky fluke. Oh no, it’s just chickens pecking each other.]
[He counterattacked! Blink counterattacked!!]
[Holy shit, my eyes!!]
[Pro tip: Lower your screen brightness!!]
The barrage was chaotic, almost out of sync with the excitement. With the commentator shouting over the top, the entire screen lit up with the mage’s bright spells, just as some of the unwilling commentators in the chat had predicted. Xia Tong had indeed predicted the opponent’s skill. Not only was he familiar with the typical Axe Warrior and Knight tactics from many previous 3v3 matches with Bo Yu and Zhou Yanjun, but more importantly, he had heard the heavy, chaotic footsteps of the Axe Warrior.
In this pitch-black, hand-in-front-of-you world, whoever has the sharpest senses wins.
So, before entering the opponent’s line of sight, Xia Tong had already retreated. Although the retreat was rushed and unsteady, he successfully avoided the attack. Even more impressively, his hands and brain reacted in sync, the result of a week of rigorous training that had enhanced his physical abilities. His mind wasn’t distracted by his body’s physical strain, and every movement of his wand was decisive, unleashing a torrent of deadly spells in the chaos.
The mage’s magic lit up the entire plateau like daylight, making the battlefield clearly visible. Zhou Yanjun, riding on the White Wolf King, laughed as he charged out. “Little Bo! Go help your big brother heal!”
Bo Yu: “Okay!”
A barrage of question marks filled the chat.
[What? After all these years, are these two still just healing each other?]
[Holy shit, playing as an elf, I’m shaking in fear. What did the healer do wrong in their past life to deserve this?]
[What is even happening? I don’t understand at all!]
[If you don’t get it, it’s because the Hulu Team clearly has no strategy!]
[If the Hulu Team has no strategy, why does it look like P Team doesn’t have one either?]
[Why is Yixinyefu’s HP already halfway down, but they’re not focusing on him directly?! Why are they attacking the healer instead?!]
[Alright, I get it now. This is an all-out brawl. Yep, a ten-man chaotic brawl.]
[Oh my god, Blink, watch out!!!]
Xia Tong retreated while trading blows with the axe warrior named Yixinyefu. His spells rained down one after another with fierce intensity, but that tough Russian was ridiculously tanky. Combined with the axe warrior’s natural defense buffs, Xia Tong had no way to suppress him alone. Instead, he narrowly avoided getting caught multiple times.
Just as Zero had predicted, this was complete chaos. The opposing team was fighting haphazardly with no sense of coordination, no strategy to balance their firepower, and no focused takedowns. Luckily, Zhou Yanjun and Bo Yu were relentlessly chasing down the enemy elf, while the only domestic mage on the opposing team was frantically trying to save their allies and had no time to defend themselves. Meanwhile, Shi Ya was constantly walking straight into the enemy’s line of fire, instantly healing up every time he got shot—basically serving as a human shield.
Looking at it from this angle, Team P actually seemed to be having fun.
Then, in that split second, a thunderous beastly roar rang out.
Damn it!
Xia Tong’s first thought was that the legendary ambush specialist, Alexei, had arrived!
But it was already too late. He had been too focused on dealing with the relentless axe warrior and got caught in the Paladin’s roar. It sent him flying like a ragdoll, tumbling across the ground as his HP plummeted at a speed visible to the naked eye.
“Blink has finally been successfully ambushed!! No surprise—it’s Alexei!” The commentator sounded regretful but couldn’t hide his excitement. “Blink is now facing a deadly focus fire from two assassin-type enemies—can he possibly escape this alive?!”
“Xia Tong!!”
Shi Ya’s expression changed dramatically. The elf flapped his wings, about to rush over to help, but Lin Mingfei immediately shouted to stop him.
“Stay put!!”
Shi Ya and Xia Tong were still some distance apart, and although he had healing spells ready in hand, he was getting anxious. But then he understood Lin Mingfei’s reasoning—he was currently blocking the hunter’s line of sight. If he moved away now, Xia Tong would die instantly!
But they were too far apart! There was no way for him to heal Xia Tong in time!
“Xia Tong! Use your damage reduction skill yourself!!” he shouted.
But Xia Tong didn’t.
The little mage, covered in dust, rolled to a stop, flipped over, and before he even had a chance to get up, he had already raised his large staff. The tip of the staff crackled with electric sparks as his ultimate, charged with all his accumulated rage, shot straight toward the approaching Alexei.
“It’s Soul Reversal Infinite Combo!!” The commentator jumped from his chair, clenching his fist and slamming the desk. “Blink is giving up on self-preservation! He’s going for a mutual destruction strategy! But Alexei is still at full HP!! Even a Soul Reversal Infinite Combo can’t instantly kill a full-health Paladin! This decision is reckless—”
The commentator’s words were abruptly cut off.
A gunshot rang out.
The hunter’s bullet pierced through the Paladin who had trampled the mage. Under the amplified damage from Soul Reversal Infinite Combo, Alexei was eliminated.
Xia Tong then promptly activated his signature “South Gate National Spell,” dodging Yixinyefu’s deadly axe by a hair’s breadth and sprinting straight toward Shi Ya. Shi Ya didn’t hesitate—he unleashed all his strongest healing spells on the little mage. In an instant, Xia Tong’s HP was restored to full.
The battlefield became crystal clear.
Victory was decided.
The commentator was silent for about three to four seconds before he suddenly erupted, screaming, “My god!! The Gun God!! What an insane finishing shot!!!”
[Live Chat]
[…Can someone shut this hindsight-commentator up?]
[I can’t listen to this anymore, seriously. So unprofessional. I could do a better job.]
[If he had used his big damage reduction skill earlier, it would’ve been a waste. Timer was too far away—distant water can’t put out a nearby fire. Blink would’ve died either way.]
[Gotta say, Team P really played this one with incredible synergy. If Zero had been a second late, his teammate would’ve been sacrificed for nothing.]
[Honestly, Team P has been running a solid strategy from the start—two melee pressuring the healer, Timer countering the hunter’s finishing shots, and Zero waiting for the right moment to strike.]
[Leaving Yixinyefu, the tanky melee, to be healed freely meant that even three DPS focusing him wouldn’t necessarily take him down. So, not switching targets to pressure Yixinyefu at the beginning was actually the right call.]
[Okay, I just have to say—Blink is insane. A mage kiting two melee enemies for this long with no healer support?? That’s insane!]
[He’s seriously nimble. Maybe that’s just Omega’s natural size advantage.]
[No, are you guys even looking at his damage? He managed to charge up a Soul Reversal Infinite Combo while being focused down.]
[U1S1*, I can’t even build up a Soul Reversal Infinite Combo while standing still.] (*U1S1 = “To be honest”)
[You guys switched up your attitudes real quick. Where are all the people screaming for Blink to get kicked out of pro play earlier?]
[Well, Team P won, didn’t they? If they win, then he doesn’t have to leave.]
[And where are the ones saying Omega is just a plaything for the club? Now suddenly his lightweight body is an advantage?]
[Esports only cares about winning and losing.]
[Oh, now you care only about winning and losing???]
[The chat is full of hypocrites—confirmed.]
Meanwhile, Zhou Yanjun and Bo Yu took down the enemy healer, and Team P swiftly wrapped up the battle, retreating from the Day-Night Plateau to the preparation area.
Xia Tong still felt sore all over from the fall and kept rubbing at the pain. When he looked up, he saw his teammates frantically rubbing their eyes.
“Damn, that little dwarf’s skill almost blinded me,” Zhou Yanjun complained. “That cursed special effect weapon!”
Bo Yu gave Xia Tong a thumbs-up. “The special effect weapon is crazy, but the damage is legit.”
Shi Ya, still shaken by the near-disaster, sighed, “I’m too old for these sudden strategy shifts. Xia Xiaotong almost died right in front of me just now—that would’ve been a stain on my entire healing career! So please, next time, can you guys discuss your tactics with me before the fight?!”
“I actually think it was pretty good.” Lin Mingfei smiled faintly, folding his arms. “A perfect kill.”
“Perfect, my ass! Who would have thought that at a time like that, he’d skip using a damage reduction skill and go for a counterattack instead?!” Shi Ya jabbed a finger at Xia Tong. “What kind of crazy breed are you? You don’t learn anything else, but you sure learned how to be reckless fast! Weren’t you afraid that if Zero didn’t land that shot, you’d just drop dead on the spot?!”
“Actually… I wasn’t too worried.” Xia Tong blinked, his pupils shimmering slightly. “I believed that Zero would definitely follow up and secure the kill. He wouldn’t just watch me die in vain.”
“Why?” Shi Ya was slightly taken aback.
“Uh…” Xia Tong pursed his rosy lips, stealing a glance to the side—right into Lin Mingfei’s amused yet unreadable gaze. “Maybe because he’s Zero. There’s… a special connection between us, I guess!”
