Ch 32: Do Good Brothers Not Have Any Pure Friendship?

Chapter 32

Zhou Baishu finally understood why Wen Chenxi acted so fearless. He hadn’t anticipated this would be the reason.

Zhou Baishu felt conflicted as he observed Old Zhuang, who seemed very pleased and even felt Wen Chenxi should be this close to his son. If they weren’t this close, that would be the real problem.

Still worried, Zhou Baishu decided to drop a subtle hint to his friend to prepare him—just in case one day the two kids actually ended up together and came out to him. That way, Old Zhuang, who likely had no prior exposure to such matters, wouldn’t be caught off guard.

With that in mind, Zhou Baishu carefully chose his words. “You know, even among good friends, there’s always a degree of closeness. Look at Chenxi and Xiaoji or Xiaoli—he’s friends with them, too, but it’s clear that his relationship with Xiaoyu is… different.”

Old Zhuang didn’t hesitate. “Of course! For Xiao Wen, our Xiaoshi is unique.”

Zhou Baishu was startled by the reply. This didn’t sound like someone who was unaware of such matters.

“Exactly,” Zhou Baishu said, trying again. “I can tell that Chenxi treats Xiaoyu differently. He even has a biological brother, but their bond isn’t quite like what he has with Xiaoyu.”

Old Zhuang was surprised. “Chenxi has a biological brother?”

“It’s my son, A-Cheng,” Zhou Baishu explained with a smile. “But the bond between him and Chenxi is more like what he has with Xiaoji or Xiaoli. That’s why I say Chenxi’s feelings for Xiaoyu are special.”

Old Zhuang was visibly moved. “Not just brothers—closer than brothers.”

He didn’t question why Zhou Qingcheng was Wen Chenxi’s biological brother. Instead, he thought to himself that the system had really picked a great brother for his son, Xiaoshi.

“Absolutely,” Zhou Baishu agreed.

Still, Old Zhuang remained cheerful, and Zhou Baishu decided to press on. “You know, I think young people today have much more open views than we did back in the day. If they’re really close, as elders, we should support whatever they choose to do and not stand in their way, don’t you think?”

Old Zhuang seemed deep in thought.

Zhou Baishu carefully observed his friend’s expression, nervous that Old Zhuang might lash out and “break up the couple” with one swing of a stick. If that happened, Zhuang Yanyu—who was very obedient—would likely comply and never see Wen Chenxi again.

Finally, Old Zhuang nodded slowly. “You’re right.”

Zhou Baishu sighed in relief. He felt he had done the younger generation a great favor by laying the groundwork. Now, it was up to the two kids to see if fate would bring them together.

The experimental fields were vast, with some medicinal plants grown in the mountains. Going there and back took half a day. By the time they returned to the Zhuang household, it was already dark.

After dinner, the birthday candles were blown out, and the cake was eaten. To avoid disturbing Old Zhuang’s early bedtime, everyone left voluntarily.

Zhou Baishu stayed overnight in the countryside to inspect medicinal plants the next day.

Zhuang Yanyu had originally planned to stay too, but since he had a business trip starting Monday, Old Zhuang insisted he return to the city to pack in advance, ensuring he wouldn’t forget anything.

So Zhuang Yanyu left with Wen Chenxi.

Before they left, Old Zhuang seemed like he had something to say to Zhuang Yanyu.

Zhuang Yanyu noticed and asked, “Dad?”

Seeing everyone else around, Old Zhuang thought better of it and shook his head. “I’ll tell you over WeChat later. Be careful on the road, and take care of yourself during the trip, Xiaoshi.”

Zhuang Yanyu nodded. “Okay, you too.”

That night, Zhuang Yanyu stayed at Wen Chenxi’s place, planning to pack his luggage after a good night’s sleep.

The two-meter-tall pillow Old Zhuang had gifted him now sat on Wen Chenxi’s bed.

Zhuang Yanyu waited for a while, but when no WeChat message from Old Zhuang arrived, he checked the time and figured his dad had already gone to sleep.

It probably wasn’t anything important; otherwise, his dad would have told him in advance.

Thinking this, Zhuang Yanyu felt reassured and decided to ask next time.

He placed the body pillow in the middle of the bed, waiting for Wen Chenxi to finish freshening up and join him.

When Wen Chenxi came out of the bathroom, he saw the position of the body pillow and calmly rejected it. “Are you sure about it being in the middle? It’ll block me from getting to you.”

The implication was clear: choose between the body pillow or him.

Zhuang Yanyu glanced at the body pillow, then at Wen Chenxi. After a moment of hesitation, he moved the body pillow to the left side of the bed. He lay in the middle while Wen Chenxi remained on the right.

“It’s on the side now,” Zhuang Yanyu said.

Wen Chenxi’s lips curled in satisfaction, feeling relieved that at least he hadn’t lost out to the body pillow.

The next second, Zhuang Yanyu added, “This works too. You can hug me, and I can hug it. No interference.”

Being human now, unlike machines, why couldn’t he have both?

Wen Chenxi: “…”

He watched in silence as Zhuang Yanyu lay down, then shifted slightly to his side, hugging the body pillow.

Like a child refusing to let go of a toy, Zhuang Yanyu gradually scooted back toward Wen Chenxi’s side while still clutching the pillow. Finally, he turned to glance at Wen Chenxi—a look that seemed to signal, Alright, I’m ready. You can hug me now.

Resigned, Wen Chenxi pulled him into his arms.

Looking on the bright side, Wen Chenxi consoled himself: at least this little fish was willing to get close to him. Maybe Zhuang Yanyu just hadn’t realized it yet, but there was still hope.

If it were anyone else with a cold, unyielding temperament, he might not even have the chance to hold hands.

Surrounded by a familiar scent and clutching the gift from his father, Zhuang Yanyu felt content. Closing his eyes, he fell asleep almost instantly.

Though this was their sleeping arrangement initially, Zhuang Yanyu woke up to find himself curled up entirely on top of Wen Chenxi, their faces mere inches apart.

The body pillow? Nowhere to be seen.

Sitting up groggily, Zhuang Yanyu blinked at the room in a daze.

The movement woke Wen Chenxi, who simply opened his eyes and silently watched Zhuang Yanyu.

Freshly awakened, Zhuang Yanyu always had a few minutes of drowsy confusion. He’d sit blankly for a while before gradually looking around, as if trying to confirm where he was.

Wen Chenxi loved seeing him like this—a naturally harmless, endearing little creature that stirred a protective instinct, making him want to hide Zhuang Yanyu away somewhere safer or keep him in a place only he could see.

Two minutes later, Zhuang Yanyu’s brain seemed to reboot successfully. He spotted the body pillow on the floor and quickly got out of bed to pick it up.

Wen Chenxi asked knowingly, “Why’s it on the floor?”

He wouldn’t admit that he’d tossed it down in the middle of the night.

“Maybe I accidentally kicked it off,” Zhuang Yanyu replied.

“You sleep pretty soundly,” Wen Chenxi said. “Usually, you wouldn’t kick things.”

Pausing for a moment, Wen Chenxi added with a neutral expression, “I guess the bed’s just not big enough. It’s fine for the two of us, but adding a big body pillow makes it cramped. Why not leave it on the sofa outside?”

Zhuang Yanyu shook his head. “No need. It won’t be squeezing us after today.”

Wen Chenxi hesitated for a moment, a flicker of hope in his voice. “You’re putting it in the guest room?”

Zhuang Yanyu gave him a puzzled look. “I’m leaving for H City tomorrow. I’m taking it with me.”

Wen Chenxi: “…”

How could he have forgotten?

The next morning, Wen Chenxi seemed noticeably less cheerful, and Zhuang Yanyu quickly picked up on it. Several times, it seemed like Wen Chenxi wanted to say something, but when Zhuang Yanyu looked his way, he’d avoid his gaze.

Analyzing Wen Chenxi’s change in mood, Zhuang Yanyu arrived at a conclusion.

On the way to his apartment to pick up his luggage, Zhuang Yanyu asked, “Chenxi, do you not want me to go on this trip?”

Wen Chenxi had just fastened his seatbelt when he froze momentarily. “No, I don’t.”

Then he added, “But I know it’s for work.”

Everyone has their own life and responsibilities. Though Wen Chenxi didn’t like the thought of being apart for so long, he wouldn’t stand in Zhuang Yanyu’s way.

Moreover, this project was an excellent opportunity. If it succeeded, Zhuang Yanyu would gain invaluable experience and confidence, which would help him grow and progress in his career. Especially considering how few friends he had, traveling for work could be a meaningful way to expand his horizons and enrich his life.

Reaching over, Wen Chenxi ruffled Zhuang Yanyu’s hair. “I’ll be waiting for you at home.”

Zhuang Yanyu replied, “I’ll come back as soon as I’m done.”

Wen Chenxi smiled. “Alright. I’ll wait.”

On Monday morning, Supervisor Xu sent a notice letting Zhuang Yanyu know he could head straight to the airport rather than stopping by the office. The team was scheduled to meet there for a 10:30 AM flight.

Wen Chenxi offered to take the luggage. “I’ll drive you.”

“Okay,” Zhuang Yanyu agreed.

During the drive, Wen Chenxi glanced at Zhuang Yanyu’s small suitcase and noted the absence of the body pillow. Feeling a sense of relief, he thought, Looks like he gave up on bringing it to H City—or maybe he just forgot.

When they arrived at the airport, Wen Chenxi did a quick calculation and confirmed that if he returned home now, there wouldn’t be enough time to make it back and catch the flight.

Feeling reassured, he casually asked, “Didn’t you say you were taking the body pillow to H City? Why didn’t you bring it—did you forget?”

If it was forgotten, there was no time to retrieve it.

Wen Chenxi was quite pleased with this realization.

When they returned home later, he planned to have the body pillow compressed, framed in a transparent gold-trimmed box, and then melt the gold trim slightly to ensure the pillow couldn’t be removed.

He would then tell Yanyu that gifts from elders should be cherished, so they had preserved it for display in a secure case.

Knowing Zhuang Yanyu’s personality, he figured that would be enough to stop him from dismantling the gold frame.

Unexpectedly, upon hearing the question, Zhuang Yanyu looked at him with a worried expression.

Wen Chenxi: “…What’s wrong?”

Zhuang Yanyu: “Chenxi, I’ve realized that your understanding of basic life skills is quite limited.”

Limited enough to rival his own knowledge, even as a system experiencing humanity for the first time.

Wen Chenxi: “?”

Zhuang Yanyu explained patiently, “Nowadays, people rarely carry lots of items when traveling. It’s inconvenient. Everything can be shipped by courier. The hotel will receive it at the front desk.”

The engineering assistant had sent him the hotel address the day before. So, as soon as Zhuang Yanyu woke up that morning, he compressed and packed the pillow, dropped it off at the security office, and filled out the hotel address for express shipping.

With a special express delivery service, the pillow would arrive by the next day.

He had even considered shipping his clothes but decided against it. The thought of wrinkled clothes was unbearable, so he opted to bring a suitcase instead.

Wen Chenxi: “…”

Zhuang Yanyu sighed lightly, held Wen Chenxi’s hand, and asked with concern, “I thought this was common knowledge for all humans.”

Then, reconsidering, he thought: But since Chenxi travels often, he surely knows this.

After analyzing possible reasons in his highly data-driven mind, Zhuang Yanyu reached a plausible conclusion:

With age, humans experience memory decline.

Looking at Wen Chenxi with sympathetic eyes, Zhuang Yanyu felt a pang of heartache.

The look was so direct and transparent that Wen Chenxi couldn’t even pretend not to notice.

He told himself: Don’t ask. You won’t understand where his train of thought is headed.

Keeping calm, Wen Chenxi said, “Maybe I’ve just been busy and forgot.”

Zhuang Yanyu comforted him, “It’s okay. Playing more mahjong can help.”

Wen Chenxi: “Why would playing more mahjong help?”

Zhuang Yanyu looked at him, then looked again.

Seeing this, Wen Chenxi couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation. This fish had a knack for being sharp in certain ways—like sensing when his words might upset someone and hesitating before speaking.

Annoyed yet amused, Wen Chenxi said, “Just say it.”

Zhuang Yanyu hesitated briefly, then explained, “Playing mahjong can help prevent Alzheimer’s.”

After speaking, he immediately closed his mouth, his expression clearly saying, You asked me to say it.

Wen Chenxi: “…”

Annoyed, Wen Chenxi felt an itch in his hand and reached out, intending to pinch his cheek.

At that moment, Zhuang Yanyu’s phone rang.

The call was from Qin Yiyuan, asking where Zhuang Yanyu was, as he was already at the departure gate.

After hanging up, Zhuang Yanyu said, “I’ll head in now.”

Wen Chenxi reminded him again, “Call me when you land.”

Zhuang Yanyu nodded. “Got it.”

After passing through security and arriving at the gate, Zhuang Yanyu saw Qin Yiyuan.

“Just you?” Zhuang Yanyu asked, puzzled.

Qin Yiyuan smiled and replied, “This is just the first phase of auxiliary construction. We’re only here to finalize the layout and technical route. No need for a large team.”

Zhuang Yanyu nodded in understanding.

In truth, he felt he could have handled the task alone, but humans valued teamwork for higher efficiency—a concept he agreed with.

Once around others, Zhuang Yanyu became less talkative. As they waited for the flight, he mostly looked at his phone, reading messages from Wen Chenxi.

One message after another:

I’ve gotten in the car.

Stuck in traffic during rush hour.

Traffic cleared; the road is open again.

These mundane updates captivated Zhuang Yanyu, and beneath his long lashes, his eyes softened with a faint smile.

Qin Yiyuan, watching this, found himself momentarily stunned.

He had always known Zhuang Yanyu was attractive but hadn’t expected his smile to be this enchanting—a mix of coolness and inexplicable cuteness.

Initially convinced Zhuang Yanyu was completely straight, Qin Yiyuan had already decided to give up and just be friends.

But watching him interact with Wen Chenxi, Qin Yiyuan couldn’t help but feel there was a hint of something else.

His feelings became conflicted. Zhuang Yanyu had clearly said he didn’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, so… was there still a chance for him?

Lost in thought, Qin Yiyuan stared at Zhuang Yanyu.

Noticing Qin Yiyuan’s dazed expression, Zhuang Yanyu sighed internally.

Zhuang Yanyu: Does the company really not lose money?

Wen Chenxi: Huh?

Zhuang Yanyu: My colleagues seem a bit… clueless.

Wen Chenxi:

So this is why he’s always worried about me not making money?

Wen Chenxi was equal parts amused and exasperated.

Wen Chenxi: Don’t worry. I can’t vouch for the service center, but the engineering team is top-notch.

There are no unskilled people at Azure Tech who can stay long.

Zhuang Yanyu: Okay.
Zhuang Yanyu: Boarding now.

With that, their conversation ended. Zhuang Yanyu put his phone away, switched to airplane mode, and said to Qin Yiyuan, who was still staring at him, “Time to go.”

“Ahem,” Qin Yiyuan snapped out of it. “Sorry, I was just…”

He wanted to say he hadn’t meant to keep staring—it was just that he’d zoned out.

Zhuang Yanyu, unfazed, said, “It’s fine. I’m used to it. It’s not the first time you’ve stared at me like that.”

Qin Yiyuan rubbed his nose in embarrassment. He knew Zhuang Yanyu was just being straightforward without any deeper implications, but it was still awkward.

When the plane landed in H City, Zhuang Yanyu immediately switched off airplane mode and dutifully sent Wen Chenxi a message.

Seeing this, Qin Yiyuan asked, “Checking in with family?”

Zhuang Yanyu replied, “No, with my brother.”

The brother again…

After a moment’s hesitation, Qin Yiyuan asked, “Is this the same brother who picked you up when we were at the food stall?”

“Yes.”

“I get the feeling you two are really close.”

“Not just close—extremely close.”

“Haha… I can tell. Um, I mean, most brothers wouldn’t be that close.”

Zhuang Yanyu nodded. “Correct. We’re not ordinary brothers.”

They were the best of brothers.

Qin Yiyuan froze. “…Huh?”

Was this a subtle way of coming out to him?

But hadn’t he said he didn’t have a boyfriend?

“We’re…” Zhuang Yanyu thought for a moment before finding a fitting term. “We’re… connected by someone. Not like regular brothers.”

If it weren’t for the screening from the central system in his past life, he wouldn’t have met Chenxi. It really was like being matched by a connector.

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

Connected by someone.

Someone connected them!

Wasn’t that basically matchmaking?

Didn’t that mean they weren’t officially together yet but were interacting with the intention of a relationship?

Qin Yiyuan’s faint hope was extinguished once again. Well, in that case, stepping in would be inappropriate.

Feeling resigned, Qin Yiyuan regretfully accompanied Zhuang Yanyu to the hotel.

Since they had arrived early, there was still the entire afternoon.

Zhuang Yanyu, preferring to finish early and return home sooner, suggested they head to the construction site in the afternoon. Qin Yiyuan had no objections.

The Harbor Group had cordoned off the coastal construction site to keep others out. Excavators were digging trenches and laying foundations.

After contacting the site supervisor, they were greeted upon arrival and given engineering blueprints and a 3D model combining design plans with real-world visuals.

The sound of the excavators was deafening, and the exhaust pipes seemed to rumble continuously.

The Harbor Group’s engineer, Wang Nan, led them to a shaded spot and explained the current layout:
“This area is for pipeline routing, and here are the foundations for the quay cranes and yard cranes. Given the load-bearing requirements, the foundations need to be deep. We were considering using this spot as the equipment room for the control system, but it depends on your input.”

After taking a look, Zhuang Yanyu shook his head. “This location is too close to the berthing port. Large ships and other radio equipment will interfere with each other. The technical route for the control system can’t go through here—it’ll be too damp.”

Wang Nan pointed at the 3D model. “It’s actually a bit farther from the berthing port, so it shouldn’t be damp. See, the seawater is here, and the equipment room is planned for this area.”

“It’s not just about distance,” Zhuang Yanyu replied. “You also have to consider the soil’s moisture content.”

“I know that. Let me take you there to check it out.”

“Alright.”

However, the port under construction was massive, and walking the site wasn’t a quick task. The area was full of uneven terrain and ongoing work, making it dangerous in places.

Wang Nan, seemingly very busy, was constantly taking phone calls as he guided them.

Before they reached their destination, the sound of an excavator suddenly quieted—it had stopped working.

The driver of the excavator ran over and reported, “Boss, my excavator has a problem. I just checked—it might need repairs. Should I call someone to bring another one over?”

“When can they get here?” Wang Nan asked. “We’re on a schedule, and delays aren’t acceptable.”

“I’ll ask.” The driver made a call and soon returned, saying, “They’re at another site right now; it’ll be the day after tomorrow.”

“That’s too long. Call someone to fix it first.”

After giving instructions to the driver, Wang Nan turned back to apologize to Zhuang Yanyu and Qin Yiyuan but stopped mid-sentence. “Huh? Where are they?”

Looking around, he spotted them by the broken excavator.

Wang Nan hurried over, ready to apologize, but before he could speak, he heard Zhuang Yanyu ask, “Do you have tools?”

“Uh?” Wang Nan was confused.

Zhuang Yanyu pointed at the excavator. “I can fix it.”

He couldn’t afford to let progress be delayed—he needed to get home quickly. His brother was waiting for him.

Construction sites were never short on tools, and Wang Nan quickly had someone bring them over.

Watching this, Qin Yiyuan was stunned. “Xiaoyu, you can repair machinery?”

Zhuang Yanyu gave him a puzzled look. “You can’t?”

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

Zhuang Yanyu: “These are pretty much the same as our engineering procedures.”

To him, these were just simple basic concepts.

In his past life, when he was part of the system, his database contained over 100,000 various blueprints, and he still remembered most of them. However, most of them were outdated and didn’t align with the scientific level of this era, so he couldn’t use them.

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

That’s a huge difference!

Otherwise, why is it said that everyone has their own area of expertise?

But this was just the beginning.

From that day on, Qin Yiyuan began to realize that Zhuang Yanyu was like Doraemon, the robotic cat—there was no electronic device or gadget he couldn’t fix! There wasn’t a program he couldn’t write!

They stayed at a hotel near the construction site. While it was the best hotel in the area, it couldn’t compare to the city center, and the TV was broken.

Zhuang Yanyu fixed it.

It was too hot at night, and the air conditioning was so outdated that no cold air came out, making it feel as if it wasn’t even on.

Zhuang Yanyu fixed it again.

When they used a drone to survey the construction site and create a new 3D model, the drone malfunctioned and crashed.

Zhuang Yanyu rewired the circuit board, rewrote the program, and fixed it.

Even when they were treated to a meal by the Harbor Group and then went to the beach, someone dropped their phone into the water. It took a long time to dig it out of the sand and water, but it was already broken.

The group suggested he take it to a phone store for repairs. The guy hesitated, saying that there were private photos on the phone, and he didn’t want anyone to see them. The phone store owner said it would take until the next day to fix it.

The person was so embarrassed about the photos, he was thinking of just getting a new phone.

Zhuang Yanyu, overhearing this, told him to borrow a set of tools and fixed it in an hour.

It’s said that if you excel in math, physics, and chemistry, you can conquer the world, as everything in these fields is interconnected.

But Zhuang Yanyu seemed to have mastered everything!

Qin Yiyuan was completely impressed and, once again, found his hopes reignited.

After all… after all, he and his brother weren’t together yet. Maybe, if he kept trying, there was still a chance?

After all, feelings don’t depend on when they start, right?

So that evening, Qin Yiyuan changed into new clothes and knocked on Zhuang Yanyu’s door, planning to invite him for a walk by the beach.

Zhuang Yanyu had just finished showering. When he heard Qin Yiyuan’s voice, he went to open the door.

As soon as the door opened, Qin Yiyuan froze.

Zhuang Yanyu’s hair was still damp, and his whole body had a faint pink hue from just having showered.

Qin Yiyuan’s face flushed bright red, and he quickly averted his gaze, embarrassedly asking, “Why… why are you wearing so little?”

Zhuang Yanyu glanced at his three-quarter pants and short-sleeve shirt and replied, “I think this is normal attire.”

Qin Yiyuan thought to himself, What do I do? This behavior seems so straightforward… is he really gay?

Zhuang Yanyu opened the door for him to enter and, while drying his hair, asked, “Is there something you need?”

Qin Yiyuan stepped in but didn’t go any further, worried it would be rude.

Taking a deep breath, he said, “I was hoping to invite you for a walk by the beach. It’s nice and cool out right now.”

Zhuang Yanyu hesitated for a moment, thinking about maintaining a professional relationship, then remembered his brother had told him to go to bed early, so he politely declined. “No, my brother told me to sleep early and avoid going out tonight.”

Qin Yiyuan was taken aback. “He… he’s that controlling?”

Zhuang Yanyu looked at him strangely. “Is that a problem? I keep an eye on him too.”

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

Well, it was pretty obvious now that they cared for each other.

Qin Yiyuan’s renewed hopes quickly faded once more.

“I see.” Qin Yiyuan, feeling envious of their relationship and bitter in his heart, asked, “So, do you plan on getting married someday?”

While same-sex relationships were common and no longer shocking, marriage and having children were still major life milestones for many, especially for more traditional families.

Qin Yiyuan remembered that Zhuang Yanyu’s hometown was in the countryside.

His parents were likely more traditional.

“Marriage?” Zhuang Yanyu initially wanted to say that he had no plans to marry. But considering society’s expectations, he wondered if saying he didn’t want to marry might sound too unusual.

After a few seconds of thought, Zhuang Yanyu said, “I’ll think about it when my dad starts pressuring me. He mentioned before that when I reach the right age, the neighbors will set me up with a girl.”

Qin Yiyuan almost stumbled. “…Marry a… a woman?”

But weren’t you and your brother supposed to be in a relationship?

Zhuang Yanyu looked at him curiously. “According to marriage laws, don’t men always marry women? Can men marry men instead?”

Zhuang Yanyu kept an eye on his words—he’d need to look this up later.

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

He hadn’t expected Zhuang Yanyu to have this potential. For a while, Qin Yiyuan was speechless.

But if that were the case, it meant… Zhuang Yanyu’s feelings for his brother weren’t as deep as he thought?

Qin Yiyuan’s heart stirred, and he took another small step forward, asking, “How about we take a walk by the beach? I’ve actually wanted to talk to you for a while… about my feelings… and some other things.”

Before Zhuang Yanyu could respond, a third person’s voice suddenly came from the room.

“Xiaoyu, you’re still not done? You two have been talking for quite a while.” The man’s voice was deep but carried a trace of indifference.

It was filled with a sense of coldness and exclusion, as if he knew another man was present.

Qin Yiyuan jumped in surprise. “Who?!”

Zhuang Yanyu: “Oh.”

Zhuang Yanyu took his phone and said, “I’ve been talking to my brother on the phone. I thought you were just going to stay for a bit, so I didn’t hang up.”

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

Qin Yiyuan: “………”

His expression shifted from red to pale, then to greenish, and after a long pause, he muttered, “Didn’t you just take a shower…?”

Zhuang Yanyu, puzzled, asked, “I just took a shower. What does that have to do with hanging up the phone?”

He didn’t want to hang up on his brother, so he kept talking while showering.

Qin Yiyuan: “…”

If there had been a hole in the ground, Qin Yiyuan would have definitely crawled into it.

This was so incredibly awkward!

He’d never been through anything like this before!

With his last bit of hope, he asked, “So, your brother is…?”

Is he the one from the matchmaking setup?

Just then, the voice on the other end of the phone spoke again: “Xiaoyu, did you let him see the pillow on the bed?”

Qin Yiyuan froze for a moment, took a few steps forward, and finally saw Zhuang Yanyu’s bed.

Wen Chenxi: “Did you see the pillow on the bed? The photo on the pillow is of me.”

Qin Yiyuan: “………”

Author’s Note:

PS—

Qin Yiyuan: “Although, I have to say, the boss’s photo was edited really well.”

Wen Chenxi: “…….. (killed a thousand enemies, but injured myself by 999.9)”

Wen Chenxi: “Now that I know the rebar isn’t just harming me, I feel better. (The pillow is barely useful.)”
