Ch 13: When the Merman Turns Into a Disabled O

Chapter 13

Chi Yanxing had been leaving work early for an entire week. He would leave on time, sometimes even an hour ahead, which was entirely unlike him. The company was abuzz with gossip about the change.

“No way. Is the sun rising in the west now? The boss leaving work early? Wasn’t there a new project in the medical division this month?”

“Leaving early is a good thing! Remember those years when Boss Chi worked overtime like crazy? This building became the brightest landmark in the city. Who dared leave before him?”

“I’ve noticed Mr. Wang’s expression has been odd these days…”

“How so?”

“Like he knows some big gossip but can’t say anything about it.”

“Did you notice that too? Do you think the big boss might be getting married soon?”

Someone who had just returned from the pantry chimed in, “Are you kidding? With his pheromones, just standing near him could drown someone in his aura. What omega would be brave enough to take that on?”

“You never know,” said a woman typing furiously while sucking on a lollipop. “What if he’s found a perfect match?”

“A perfect match would have to be an 80% compatibility or higher. That 60-point-something from earlier had everyone puffing their chests. If it’s an 80% match…”

“Then they’d be strutting like a peacock.”

Meanwhile, the beta driver stole a glance at Chi Yanxing in the backseat. “Boss Chi, you’re leaving even earlier than yesterday.”

Chi Yanxing, looking at his work tablet, responded with a noncommittal hum.

Since that lively and beautiful Mr. Su had arrived, the boss had seemed more approachable. Emboldened, the driver tried making small talk. “I’ve noticed Mr. Su is very attached to you. These past few days, he’s been waiting in the courtyard in his wheelchair right around the time you get off work.”

Chi Yanxing paused, his finger hovering over the screen. “Really?”

“Yes, every time he looks at you, his eyes light up, like he’s seeing his favorite fish soup. Ah, I’m not great with metaphors, but it’s something like that—”

“Like a puppy,” Chi Yanxing muttered under his breath.

The driver didn’t catch it, chuckling awkwardly. “When Mr. Su’s health improves, maybe you could take him out for a walk. No matter how nice the villa is, it’s still a limited space. Our company is big and lively. I think he’d enjoy it.”

Chi Yanxing frowned slightly but then recalled the night Yu Su had spoken in the hospital’s underground parking lot:

“I really like your scent.”

“You’re the only thing here that makes this place bearable.”

At the time, he’d told Yu Su to be more reserved. But now, it seemed Yu Su had been longing to stay by his side even back then.

He had even sulked all afternoon on Chi Yanxing’s first day back at work.

Chi Yanxing tapped the tablet thoughtfully, seriously considering taking Yu Su to work with him. Perhaps getting out more could aid his recovery.

“Your suggestion is good,” Chi Yanxing said as he jotted down a note in his document. “I’ll think about it.”

The driver, startled by the unexpected praise, quickly responded, “Thank you, Boss!”

By the time the car reached the lush hills surrounding the villa, Chi Yanxing had put his work tablet aside. He rested an arm on the backseat’s armrest, his fingers pressed against his brow.

After a couple of minutes, he opened the backseat’s small storage compartment but, after a glance, closed it again.

Hearing the movement, the driver asked cautiously, “Boss Chi?”

Chi Yanxing’s voice was low, almost strained. “Drive faster.”

The driver’s heart skipped a beat as he pressed down on the accelerator.

By the time the car pulled into the villa’s driveway, the driver was sweating nervously. After parking, he hurriedly stepped out, but Chi Yanxing waved him off, prompting the driver to disappear in an instant.

At that moment, the butler was guiding Yu Su in watering plants in the small garden.

The moment Yu Su heard the sound of a car approaching, he instantly knew his favorite “deep-sea bomb” was back. Tossing the watering can aside, he quickly adjusted the direction of his wheelchair and pressed the forward button.

“Chi Yanxing—”

But the man didn’t step out of the car immediately today. Yu Su leaned closer to the tinted car window, his small, delicate nose squished slightly against the glass. “Hey, hey? Chi Yanxing? Are you in there?”

The butler hurriedly pulled Yu Su back a little. “Mr. Yu, you’re blocking the door. How is he supposed to get out?”

Yu Su patted his forehead. “Oh, right, I forgot.”

Sure enough, the familiar sound of the car door unlocking came the moment Yu Su moved aside. Almost instantly, a salty and humid scent seeped out from the gap in the door, washing over Yu Su’s nose within moments.

Yu Su cautiously called out, “Chi Yanxing… Are you, um, feeling okay?”

An alpha leg emerged first, long and strong, followed by a hand casually gripping the door frame. Chi Yanxing’s half-slicked black hair, which he brushed back with his free hand, instead spilled down, mingling with his thick lashes to accentuate the depth of his sharp, narrow eyes.

The waves surged and rolled. Dark clouds brewed, heralding a coming storm.

Chi Yanxing stepped out of the car without expression, crossing the distance to Yu Su in just a few strides.

The mermaid timidly swallowed. “Un-Uncle He is still—”

“He’s already gone,” Chi Yanxing replied, his voice lower and rougher than usual, with a hint of suppressed hoarseness.

Yu Su glanced around and confirmed that, indeed, no one else was around. Only the two of them remained.

“Are you… are you feeling unwell?”

“Not well at all, Yu Su,” the alpha muttered, his shoulders lowering slightly. Leaning over, he braced both hands on either side of Yu Su’s wheelchair, his warm breath tickling Yu Su’s ear. “I feel terrible.”

Yu Su jolted and instinctively reached out to push Chi Yanxing’s shoulders, but before he could resist, the man bent down and scooped him up from the wheelchair.

“Wait, Chi Yanxing!” I’m not ready yet!

Chi Yanxing, like a ravenous wolf, spoke with a growling intensity.

“Don’t move, or I might try to be gentler.”

The wheelchair was left abandoned in the courtyard as Yu Su was carried straight into the villa. He quickly stammered, “I know you need to bite me. I’ve even prepared for it—”

The omega pointed toward the double-door refrigerator in the kitchen. “But please, Chi Yanxing, let’s stop there first. I need to grab a tool. Please, please!”

Chi Yanxing, eventually unable to resist the omega’s pleading, shifted Yu Su’s position in his arms like one might cradle a child, freeing one hand to open the fridge.

“What do you need? Tell me.”

Taking advantage of the moment, Yu Su braced himself against the fridge door, quickly snatching up a tube of cream while speaking in rapid-fire. “Got it. Okay, according to protocol, you can bite me, but you have to remember not to finish me in one go. For your… consumption experience, I even prepared something special.”

Chi Yanxing’s forehead throbbed. Finish him? Consumption experience? Special preparation?

But the overwhelming desire and need consuming him gave him no time to process those strange words. Chi Yanxing didn’t even bother heading upstairs, choosing instead to place Yu Su on the kitchen counter.

The heavy, oppressive atmosphere of the deep sea filled every corner of the kitchen. Though the air had turned noticeably cooler, the chill seemed to emanate not from the alpha but from Yu Su himself.

Chi Yanxing cupped the back of Yu Su’s head with one hand, his nose brushing against the invitingly pale skin of Yu Su’s neck. In that moment, as his natural pheromones fully unleashed, he finally detected a faint trace of the omega’s scent.

It was like the winter wind whistling over the ocean, carrying distant clouds. These clouds, heavy and pressing against the vast blue sky, trembled slightly as delicate white blossoms began to fall, fluttering and fragile.

Ethereal, faint, as intangible as air yet omnipresent.

“Yu Su…”

Yu Su, just about to unscrew the cap of the tube in his hand, felt his wrist seized and pulled behind his back by the alpha. “Don’t make trouble.”

He wasn’t making trouble—! Yu Su felt his whole body go weak, unable to move. He had only wanted to carry out a bit of preparation for being metaphorically turned into sashimi, hoping Chi Yanxing might show a little more restraint for his cooperation.

But in the end, his preparations were unnecessary. A firm hand tilted Yu Su’s head forward, pressing his forehead against the tailored shoulder of Chi Yanxing’s suit. The mermaid’s pale golden hair spilled down, revealing a slightly raised gland at the nape of his neck.

Chi Yanxing inhaled deeply.

The first snow of a clear winter’s day—delicate, beautiful, and fragile.

His perfectly matched omega bore pheromones that harmonized with his own, so similar in essence that even if it came from the farthest reaches of the earth, it melded seamlessly with the vast depths of his ocean. They intertwined, indivisible.

Chi Yanxing lowered his lips to the omega’s neck, his actions reverent, as if kissing a snowflake. He closed his eyes, holding his breath for fear that his overwhelming emotions might cause the fragile flake to melt.

Yu Su’s breathing quickened. “Chi, Chi Yanxing, have you bitten me yet? I… I feel really strange.”

Why was it so hot? Did Chi Yanxing leave the stove on while eating sashimi in the kitchen?

But the man didn’t respond. Instead, his fingers buried themselves in the omega’s soft hair. Just as Yu Su opened his mouth to speak, a sharp sting pricked the nape of his neck. Reflexively, he grabbed Chi Yanxing’s tie with trembling fingers.

Pain, pain, pain—!

A wave of indescribable pleasure overwhelmed them both. Chi Yanxing let out a low, satisfied groan. For the first time, he injected his pheromones into an omega’s gland, and the resulting bond sent him spiraling into the sweetest dream he’d ever known.

Yu Su, however, had no time to savor these sensations. The poor mermaid shuddered, his shoulders trembling as tears welled up in his reddened eyes. A single crystalline teardrop formed, rolling down his flushed cheeks before it finally fell, journeying past Chi Yanxing’s tailored suit, down his long legs, and landing silently on the floor.

A tiny, perfectly round object stood out like a lone star on the dark floorboards.

Gentleness and sharpness, liveliness and depth.

There could be no more perfect match than them—a hundred percent compatibility.

Chi Yanxing released his grip on Yu Su’s wrist and raised a hand to gently pat his shoulder and back, as if soothing an unstoppable cough in the middle of the night. He slowly comforted the omega who had just undergone a temporary mark.

“Don’t be afraid. It’s over.”
