Ch 12: When the Merman Turns Into a Disabled O

Chapter 12

“Chi Yanxing!” Yu Su spoke urgently, his clean and clear voice cutting through Chi Yanxing’s lingering frustration like ice water, instantly quelling his mood—and shocking the people in the meeting room into silence.

They didn’t dare move or eavesdrop; they just sat there feeling as restless as ants on a hot pan.

“Mm, it’s me.”

“Chi Yanxing… When are you coming back?” Yu Su held the phone with both hands, his smart wheelchair automatically moving him to the living room window.

Chi Yanxing, standing tall in his sharp black suit, looked like a sheathed sword. “Probably in the afternoon. What’s wrong?”

“I… I kind of miss you…” Yu Su hesitated to say he missed his pheromones.

Chi Yanxing paused for a couple of seconds. Glancing back at the meeting room, he moved further away. “I’ll be back in two hours.”

“Two hours?”

“Yes, there’s a lot of work piled up recently.”

Inside the meeting room, the managers felt like they were roasting over a slow fire.

“Today, Housekeeper He showed me around the villa,” Yu Su continued.

“Mm.”

“Your house is so beautiful, especially the big swimming pool.” Hearing Chi Yanxing’s voice calmed Yu Su, making him think about the morning’s events.

“The pool? Stay away from it,” Chi Yanxing warned, his fingers tapping lightly on the phone.

“Don’t worry! Housekeeper He already drained it. What’s the point of an empty pool though…” Yu Su’s tone sounded a bit regretful.

“Safety first. Don’t mess around too much.”

The five words, “Don’t mess around too much,” broadcasted through the meeting room’s surround sound, left a striking impression.

“Damn!” someone blurted out. “This is straight-up PDA in the workplace!”

A colleague quickly clamped a hand over his mouth, whispering, “Shh! Think about your paycheck!”

Outside the meeting room, the conversation continued.

Yu Su rested his forehead against the window. “Anyway, I’ll wait for you to come back. I even saved half a little yellow fish for you from lunch. It wasn’t easy, you know!”

Chi Yanxing’s voice, distorted slightly through the phone, gave no clue if he was touched. He only replied, “Got it,” and fell silent.

Feeling awkward about interrupting his work, Yu Su quickly added, “Um, then I’ll hang up now. You get back to work!”

Chi Yanxing hummed in acknowledgment, and the line disconnected. Staring at his phone, he edited the contact name from “Villa” to “Family.”

Returning to the meeting room, Chi Yanxing, who had uncharacteristically stepped out to take a personal call, noticed the managers’ strange expressions. They looked like kids needing to use the bathroom but afraid to ask the teacher.

He glanced around the room. “Any new projects to report?”

The elites below all shook their heads in unison.

“Then the meeting’s over.”

“Got it, got it.” The group bolted out of the room, practically stepping on each other’s heels in their haste—more panicked than if the boss had just threatened to dock their pay.

Chi Yanxing picked up the folder on the table and was about to leave when he noticed something odd: they’d forgotten to turn off the screen mirroring. A mistake like this had never happened before, not even before his vacation. He opened his phone app as he walked, planning to turn it off remotely. But when he opened it, he was greeted by a dual-device connection symbol.

Chi Yanxing: “…”

He slowly turned around, switching screens on his phone as he did so, only to see a recently ended call record displayed on the synchronized big screen.

Chi Yanxing closed his eyes briefly and pressed the disconnect button with force.

Ridiculous. Anything related to that omega was always absurd.

With a loud bang, the big boss slammed the conference room door shut and stormed back to his CEO office without stopping.

Uncle He, smiling kindly, handed over the phone and softly reassured Yu Su, “Please wait just a little longer, Mr. Yu. When the master says two hours, he won’t be a minute off.”

Yu Su let out a small “oh,” still looking somewhat dejected.

The butler grew anxious. This little omega already had a frail body—what if his mood worsened and affected his health? He was so worried he wanted to wring his handkerchief.

Suddenly, inspiration struck Uncle He. He remembered some of the fun little things in this villa.

“Mr. Yu!”

Yu Su propped his chin lazily. “Hmm?”

“I just thought of something interesting. Do you like little fish?”

“I do, I guess. They’re pretty tasty,” Yu Su replied indifferently.

Uncle He whispered mysteriously, “Not the edible kind—Master Chi’s pet fish—”

Yu Su froze, then sat bolt upright. His expression shifted from gloom to blankness, then to mild anger. Narrowing his delicate brows, he raised his voice. “Are you saying Chi Yanxing even keeps other fish?”

The butler, oblivious to the subtle shift in the omega’s words, simply thought Yu Su was excited.

“Yes, keeping fish is one of the master’s little hobbies. They’re on the balcony of the master bedroom. Let me take you to feed them. By the time you’re done, the master should be back.”

“Those fish stay in the same room as Chi Yanxing?!”

He’d been outright rejected by that handsome man, yet those little wild fish could live in the same room as him?!

Yu Su’s mind replayed his conversation with the alpha.

[“I’m easy to take care of! Just give me a little food and water!”]

What had Chi Yanxing said back then? He’d said—[“You think taking care of a person is as easy as taking care of fish?”]

Yu Su took a deep breath. He didn’t let the butler take him to feed the fish. Instead, he said, “Uncle He.”

“Yes?”

The pretty little omega then made an inexplicable request: “Does the villa have any photos of Chi Yanxing? Retouched and enlarged ones.”

The butler: “???”

The fish-feeding plan was abandoned. Uncle He realized the omega seemed to be sulking, but he couldn’t figure out why. Worse yet, he couldn’t locate the requested photo—Master Chi rarely took pictures, and the few old ones were at the family estate, out of reach for now.

The strange atmosphere lingered until Chi Yanxing returned.

As soon as the driver parked the car in the garage, Chi Yanxing walked into the house and immediately asked the butler, “Where is he?”

Uncle He pointed to the third floor. “Mr. Yu is upstairs.”

Chi Yanxing noted the butler’s expression and asked suspiciously, “Why do you look so nervous? Did Yu Su cause trouble?”

Before Uncle He could answer, Chi Yanxing continued, “He has limited mobility. It’s natural if he breaks a thing or two. Just replace them. By the way, where’s the yellow fish he saved for myself?”

The butler looked at him with sympathy. “Gone.”

“Gone?” Chi Yanxing loosened his tie as he walked toward the dining room. “What do you mean, gone?”

Uncle He replied from behind, “Mr. Yu ate all the fish—everything in the fridge and… and that half piece left.” All within the half-hour he couldn’t find a photo.

Chi Yanxing froze mid-step. “He ate all of it?”

“Yes. I’ve already arranged for new supplies,” the butler said dryly.

That wasn’t the point.

“What else did he say?” Chi Yanxing tossed his coat onto the back of a dining chair. “Or do?”

The butler, looking conflicted, said, “Mr. Yu didn’t ask for much or make trouble. He only requested one thing—”

Chi Yanxing felt a bad premonition. “What?”

“Your photo,” the butler said, then added, “He specifically emphasized ‘retouched and enlarged.’”

The alpha’s expression subtly changed as he pressed a hand to his forehead.

“Yu Su, open the door,” Chi Yanxing knocked on the side room door.

A moment later, a sulky voice came from inside. “No.”

Chi Yanxing was silent for two seconds before saying, “Just open the door.”

Yu Su was actually standing right behind it, having just come over from his small balcony. The daylight streaming in clearly revealed the balcony on Chi Yanxing’s side—and sure enough, there were other fish there!

Not just one or two, but countless fish, too many to count!

“I’m not even your only little fish…” Yu Su’s voice trailed off, his brain short-circuiting. He completely forgot he was an omega now, consumed only by the feeling of being deceived by this unfaithful man.

Chi Yanxing didn’t catch the latter part, only hearing something about him not being the only one.

“What are you thinking? Before I met you, I never had contact with any other omegas,” Chi Yanxing said seriously, frowning.

Yu Su heard the word “omega,” and it brought him back to his senses. He stood frozen for a moment before calming down, feeling somewhat exasperated with himself. Just as he was about to raise his hand to open the door for Chi Yanxing, he heard the alpha outside say, “Don’t be angry. I’ll come in and show you. In person. No edits, no enlargements.”

The frustration that had been clogging his chest all afternoon cleared up in an instant. He patted his head, a bit embarrassed about his earlier thoughts. What had he been doing for the past two hours? It was just a few pet fish! He could sneak in and eat them some other time. Was it really worth blowing things out of proportion?

Had his intelligence decided to leave along with Chi Yanxing?

Hurriedly, he opened the door to find the alpha standing outside. Chi Yanxing was still wearing his formal shirt, his tie slightly undone, as if he’d come to see him the moment he entered the house.

“Sorry,” Yu Su muttered, his voice soft. “I wasn’t in a good mood today.”

Chi Yanxing crouched down, resting a hand on the armrest of Yu Su’s wheelchair. “Tell me why you were upset.”

“Well… I suddenly started thinking about you this afternoon. I wanted to see you, but I couldn’t. I asked Uncle He to call you, but talking didn’t help. Then Uncle He told me you had fish in your room, and I… I just…” Yu Su trailed off, his words turning incoherent as he lowered his head in frustration.

Life was so hard. Why were there so many random thoughts? Being a fish seemed so much simpler—remember what mattered and forget the rest.

While lost in his thoughts, he saw a slender, elegant hand enter his field of vision. The hand rose gently, touched his chin, and lifted it slightly. It was warm—almost hot. Then, the man spoke.

“Yu Su, remember this: you are my 100% match as an omega.”

No matter where or when, he would always be Chi Yanxing’s one and only. There were no other options.

“And from now on, you’re not allowed to eat all the fish in the fridge out of anger. If you really want to eat, ask the housekeeper to prepare them in batches for you.”

Yu Su stared blankly at the alpha’s handsome face, a face so captivating it could make a fish drown. He then heard Chi Yanxing continue, “Finally, I’m right here. Take a good look for three minutes. Is that enough?”
