Chapter 9
Not sure if Chi Yanxing was irritated again, but by the time Yu Su wanted to ask him something, the man had already turned and hurried upstairs.
Puzzled, Yu Su tilted his head, only to see Uncle He coming down the side staircase. “Mr. Yu, let me show you to your room.”
Yu Su nodded, and Uncle He pressed the elevator button as they approached. “The master used to avoid using this, but it’s quite convenient for you now.”
“Thank you, Uncle He.”
Uncle He smiled warmly. “No need to thank me. It’s my job. It’s late today, so I’ve prepared the bathroom in your room. The master values personal privacy and will respect yours, no matter how big or small the matter.”
Yu Su waved his hand indifferently, and with a ding, the elevator opened to the third floor. “As long as I have some water and food, I’ll be fine!”
Just as he finished speaking, the door to the master bedroom, which faced the elevator, opened from inside. The person who had disappeared moments ago emerged and, in his usual cool Alpha tone, said, “Do you think taking care of a person is as easy as keeping a fish?”
Yu Su paused, then sighed, staring at him. Well, isn’t it?
Chi Yanxing misunderstood his reaction. “What? Disappointed we’re not sharing a room?”
“It’s fine,” Yu Su replied smoothly. “Just let me know if you need to bite me next time, so I can prepare myself.”
Prepare himself? What, by washing his neck?
Forget it. Who knows what strange things this Omega thinks about all day.
“Is your gland still bothering you?” Chi Yanxing asked, leaning against the doorframe.
“My gland?”
“Mm. You were rubbing it earlier.”
Yu Su instinctively touched the back of his neck again. “It’s fine now. Thanks to that glass of water, it helped cool me down.”
Chi Yanxing said flatly, “It wasn’t the water.”
“Huh? Then what was it?”
Chi Yanxing’s tone was as clinical as a research paper: “You’re different from most Omegas. Earlier, you experienced a mild heat alongside your dehydration. Normally, without an injection, an Alpha would need to provide a temporary mark. However, your gland only heated up briefly and then stabilized on its own. This could be due to your unique physiology—specifically, the unusual depth of your gland.”
Unique physiology? Depth of the gland…?
Hearing Chi Yanxing’s explanation, Yu Su suddenly thought about the Alpha who had been standing next to him earlier.
He wasn’t a typical human Omega, after all—more like a makeshift product. Being different from the standard was normal. But Chi Yanxing wasn’t the same; his natural pheromones were already hard to control. So… when Chi Yanxing disappeared after entering the house, was it because he’d been affected?
Was Chi Yanxing suppressing the urge to bite his neck just now?
But… in the end, Chi Yanxing didn’t bite him.
Yu Su looked at the man in front of him. Tall and upright, Chi Yanxing seemed like an unshakable wall.
But that wasn’t true. Dr. Wen had said that Chi Yanxing was an Alpha who couldn’t even sleep well. He was just waiting to bite Yu Su to sustain himself.
…Humans are strange.
Chi Yanxing didn’t elaborate further. He glanced at Uncle He. “Alright, take him to freshen up.”
“Yes, sir,” Uncle He replied.
Yu Su watched as Chi Yanxing shut the bedroom door again.
–
The side bedroom was ridiculously large, far beyond Yu Su’s expectations. His small seashell bed was nothing compared to this massive one. As he passed, he glanced around and marveled before pointing to the bathroom. “Uncle He, please help me over there.”
This was a perfect private space, and he could take the chance to verify a few of his suspicions.
As they walked, Uncle He introduced the facilities: “Considering your needs, I’ve prepared the shower area for you. There’s a small stool next to the bathtub where you can sit while washing.”
Yu Su, overwhelmed by being addressed as “sir,” quickly interrupted, “Got it, Uncle He. Thanks for the trouble.”
After helping Yu Su transfer from his wheelchair to the stool, Uncle He said, “It’s my duty. If you need anything, the call bell is next to the mirror. Press it when you’re done, and the master is just next door.”
Yu Su nodded quickly, not thinking too much about what he said.
Once Uncle He left, Yu Su let out a long sigh. Finally, he was alone.
He didn’t immediately turn on the shower. Instead, he grabbed the wall-mounted handle for support. When dressing earlier at the seaside villa, he’d noticed that only his legs below the knees were immobile, not his entire legs.
And his intuition told him this immobility might only be temporary.
Using his hands, Yu Su exerted force, and sure enough, his toes could press lightly against the ground, feeling slightly more natural than in the morning.
“What could be causing this… Could it be a matter of time?” Yu Su attempted to take a step forward, but his legs buckled immediately. If not for the handle, he would have fallen hard.
“Seriously… still not working? When will they? Always being pushed around by others is so embarrassing.”
He wasn’t truly disabled, after all.
After trying for a while, Yu Su gave up. Standing was the most he could manage for now. Walking was out of the question—it would take a lot more time.
The large square shower head loomed overhead. Yu Su undressed and started the water. Sitting under the stream, he stared blankly at his smooth nails, resting his chin on his hand.
Still, he felt uneasy. Sitting under the shower felt like being caught in a rainstorm at sea—boring. It couldn’t compare to diving into the water itself…
Diving into water… Diving into water?!
Yu Su suddenly turned his head toward the porcelain-white bathtub—it was practically a ready-made little pool.
–
The syringe’s empty tube landed in the trash can by the bed. Wen Bie’s words were spot on: a 100% compatible omega, even with just a mild heat, was an irresistible temptation for an alpha.
But Yu Su’s timing for his heat couldn’t have been worse. A frail omega whose thirst alone could trigger a chain reaction? Chi Yanxing wasn’t so depraved as to take advantage of someone in that state.
Besides, he still couldn’t catch Yu Su’s scent. The omega’s pheromones were as intangible as air—odorless, formless. Chi Yanxing had never encountered anything so elusive.
He grabbed a tissue and casually covered the suppressant syringe in the trash can. Just as he finished, the butler knocked and entered the room.
Chi Yanxing turned. “Is everything set up?”
“Yes, sir. Handrails, call buttons, and a freshly made bed, all arranged to accommodate Mr. Yu’s specific needs. Oh, and the call button is connected to your bedroom system.”
You can check on your sweet little omega later, the butler thought to himself.
“Good. What about clothes?”
“They’re all the latest seasonal designs. Your assistant delivered them, along with a few project files.”
Chi Yanxing unbuttoned two more buttons on his shirt, ignoring the mention of work. “What’s he doing? Testing the bed?”
With that omega’s lively personality, he’d surely play around before settling into the bathroom.
Unexpectedly, the butler replied, “He didn’t try the bed, sir. Mr. Yu asked to be taken straight to the bathroom to bathe.”
The alpha paused, then asked, “You didn’t fill the bathtub, did you?”
The butler shook his head. “Of course not. Given Mr. Yu’s limited mobility, the bathtub would be dangerous for him.”
Chi Yanxing gave a small nod of approval. “Bring the files here. I’ll take a look.”
“Understood.”
Neither the cautious alpha nor his diligent butler could have predicted that the audacious omega would fill the bathtub himself, happily plunging into the water with a splash.
