Chapter 7
Chi Yanxing found a spot on the couch to sit down, watching as Wen Bie crouched down and slowly lifted Yu Su’s leg. The usually carefree Omega looked unusually nervous.
Chi Yanxing waited for Wen Bie to put the second leg down before he asked, “So, what’s the verdict?”
Yu Su glanced at the gentle-looking doctor and swallowed nervously.
Please don’t let him figure out I’m a fish…
Wen Bie’s expression was a little strange as he thought for a long while before summarizing, “This is the most perfect Omega bone structure I’ve ever seen.”
“I know he’s great, save the compliments for later, just tell me the issue,” Chi Yanxing said, tapping his finger on Yu Su’s knee.
Wen Bie: “…”
Wen Bie rolled his eyes.
“Alright, the problem is that these legs are too perfect. They’re like a newborn’s—no signs of impact or wear, and no marks from long-term walking as an adult would have.”
It was as if they existed solely to fit into a world where everyone had legs, though Wen Bie didn’t voice that last thought.
Chi Yanxing frowned deeply, “You mean…”
“I need to ask this young man a question first,” Wen Bie said, standing straight and putting his hand in his white coat pocket, his gaze turning toward the quietly sitting Yu Su.
Yu Su flinched under the sharp look, but Chi Yanxing spoke up, “It’s fine, Wen Bie is also an Omega.”
Wen Bie smiled and spoke in a friendly, neighborly tone, “Have you ever walked before?”
Even without his memories, it seemed strange that Yu Su wouldn’t have any recollection of whether he could walk or not.
But the mermaid, who could only swim, remained silent.
Wen Bie slowly wiped the smile off his face, “You don’t even remember that?”
This was serious. If he didn’t even have basic muscle memory, recovering other forgotten memories would be nearly impossible.
Chi Yanxing couldn’t stay still anymore. He stood up and walked over to Yu Su, “Think carefully. Have you ever walked before?”
Thankfully, Yu Su still responded to Chi Yanxing’s voice. He moved his lips and muttered softly, “No.”
“What?” Both of them didn’t quite hear it.
Yu Su, feeling frustrated, raised his voice, “I’ve never walked.”
I’m a fish. This is my first time on land. How could I walk?!
Chi Yanxing was stunned, and a strange feeling churned in his chest.
An Omega who has never walked… Has no one ever taught him? Or was he somehow told from childhood that he couldn’t walk?
Lacking common sense and with cognitive issues about the ABO system, yet being such a beautiful Omega—had he been overprotected since birth, confined to one place, until he couldn’t bear it anymore and chose to end his life by drowning? Had he lost all memories because of that?
Chi Yanxing, who had spent years in the business world, was now mentally flooded with absurd plots, far removed from the sweet, nurturing drama with the butler.
“Does this mean he’ll have to stay in a wheelchair forever?” Chi Yanxing’s voice darkened, and the air seemed to grow heavy, as if a storm was about to break.
“Mr. Chi, control yourself. This small office isn’t big enough for you to wreck,” Wen Bie said as he turned, grabbing a few printed reports from the desk. “His bones are in perfect condition. His legs respond to external stimuli, so from a medical perspective, rehabilitation still has hope. As for standing, it seems to be related to psychological factors. He’s still young. With more practice, he should be able to stand up eventually. The difficult part is his memory.”
“The brain issue is complex. Regardless of what he’s forgotten, ninety percent of it relies on the patient’s own efforts. As for now…” Wen Bie flipped through the papers and looked up, “The most important thing is to first conduct a complete Omega pheromone test.”
Yu Su, who had no problem with his brain, was confused and had no idea how to “work hard” on this ninety percent the humans were talking about.
–
“Is this all we need to do?” Yu Su lay down under a strange machine.
“Yes, just relax. The test only takes a short time,” Wen Bie’s voice came through the protective glass, while Chi Yanxing stood by his side.
Yu Su saw him lower his head to say something to the doctor, who patted the man’s shoulder, as if reassuring him.
Then Chi Yanxing left the room.
Yu Su immediately began to panic. He instinctively sat up, but Wen Bie happened to glance over. “Hey, don’t move—”
“Why did Chi Yanxing leave?!”
Wen Bie replied, “He’s an Alpha. We’re doing a private Omega test, and it’s inconvenient for him to stay.”
Yu Su let out a sigh of relief and lay back down, “Alright, let’s hurry up and get this over with.”
Wen Bie smiled behind his mask, his slightly upturned eyes narrowing into slits. To ease Yu Su’s nervousness, he started chatting casually with his patient.
“Do you know what Chi Yanxing does?”
Yu Su shook his head. “No, he never told me. I just know that he seems to be very rich.”
Wherever they went, everything seemed to be his private property.
Wen Bie chuckled. “Haha, you’re right about that. Chi Yanxing, that Alpha, was once my classmate. But when we were in college, I studied medicine, and he studied finance. After graduation, he directly inherited both his father’s commercial and medical empires, while I… well, I ended up working under him in one of those massive enterprises.”
Yu Su became curious. “But aren’t you friends?”
“We are friends, but also in a superior-subordinate relationship. He’s actually my direct boss.”
“Oh… I see. So you’re the same age?”
To Yu Su’s surprise, Wen Bie shook his head. “No, I’m four years older than him. I’m thirty this year, and he’s only twenty-six.”
Yu Su blinked in surprise. “Ah??”
When he said this, Wen Bie’s voice had a somewhat gritted tone. “Since he was a child, he’s been the ‘perfect Alpha’—rare natural pheromones, a heavenly appearance, and an abnormally high intelligence. The only reason we became classmates was because, when he was young, he skipped four grades.”
Yu Su mentally swapped Chi Yanxing’s legs for a fish tail—this was the image of the powerful big fish he had always dreamed of!
“Maybe fate couldn’t bear to see him have it so easy, so it decided to stir things up a little.”
Yu Su immediately thought of what had happened in the car and quickly asked, “Did he get some incurable disease?”
Wen Bie answered the same way Chi Yanxing had: “Sort of.”
“But it’s not entirely incurable. After all, here you are.”
Yu Su heard the same thing for the second time and couldn’t help but say, “Why ‘here I am’? What can I do… I can’t even walk.”
I’m just a little useless fish.
Wen Bie subtly introduced the ABO social structure: “How could that be? You can do so much! You’re an Omega, and it’s natural for you to calm an Alpha. As long as he bites you when he feels uncomfortable and you help stabilize his rebellious pheromones, he won’t need to take any injections anymore.”
Yu Su fell silent for a long time. “Does it really have to be a bite? Will it hurt?”
“Alpha-omega marking has to go through a neck bite, but don’t worry, Chi Yanxing seems to really like you. He’ll know how to control his strength.”
“Like me? No way, he just talked to me about some kind of agreement yesterday…”
Wen Bie hadn’t expected Chi Yanxing to have made such an arrangement. He couldn’t resist leaning in to hear more: “An agreement? What kind of agreement?”
“Uh, it’s that he’ll provide me with food, shelter, and clothes, and a bite in return.”
Wen Bie was momentarily speechless. Yu Su turned his head in confusion and saw the doctor, who wasn’t bad-looking himself, almost stifling a laugh.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Pfft, sorry, couldn’t hold it in. Don’t mind his ‘agreement.’ Mr. Chi has been so absorbed in his work these years. Finally, he meets the right Omega, and of course, he wants to use the method he knows best to tie you to him. Just play along with him, don’t take it too seriously.”
Yu Su, feeling the tingling sensation in his body, murmured, “He gets angry easily. Well, I guess I’ll try to comfort him.”
Wen Bie looked at Yu Su with a smile. “Gets angry easily? That’s probably his true nature. When he was younger, he was proud and awkward. Even though he wanted to play with others, he kept a cold face. After his awakening at thirteen, his powerful natural pheromones made everyone near him feel pressure and threat first. The rejection he exuded was on a level far beyond regular Alphas. Without pheromone injections, he found it hard to be close to anyone, especially Omegas.”
“Those Omega’s who’ve had the privilege of smelling Chi Yanxing’s pheromones never felt the euphoric joy first. Instead, they were overwhelmed by the suffocating pain.”
Wen Bie’s smile faded as he became serious. “His rare natural pheromones make him a natural leader, but that has its drawbacks. The people around him are mostly Beta… Oh, by the way, a few years ago, Chi Yanxing even came to me for some sleeping pills.”
There was no harm in letting this little Omega, who might become part of the family, know a bit about Chi Yanxing’s situation—it might even help the big boss.
When Yu Su heard this, he couldn’t help but picture Chi Yanxing with a powerful tail and mentally patched it up.
He was about to speak when a sound from the machine interrupted him. Wen Bie tapped something outside the protective glass, and the glass panel opened.
“Alright, the test is finished.”
Yu Su swallowed the words he was about to say, stretched his neck, and watched as Wen Bie pulled a long test report from a nearby machine.
But Wen Bie didn’t carefully read it right away. Instead, he helped Yu Su sit up from the bed and wheeled him out of the room.
As soon as they exited, they saw Chi Yanxing leaning against the wall just outside the door.
When Yu Su saw the familiar person, he immediately felt a sense of security. “Chi Yanxing—”
“Mm, everything go smoothly?”
Wen Bie handed the wheelchair to Chi Yanxing. “Quite smoothly. Mr. Chi, you really picked up a treasure of an Omega. This little guy is so much fun.”
Chi Yanxing’s expression didn’t change, but there was a subtle glint of a smile in his eyes.
“Alright, you two stay here for a bit. I’ll go to the gene bank to check your information.”
Chi Yanxing nodded, understanding that Wen Bie was going to run a precise matching test for them.
Yu Su, however, had no concept of such things. To him, Chi Yanxing was sick, and since he could help, he was happy to do so.
Plus, this human was so handsome and smelled so good.
But he’d need to remind Chi Yanxing when he bit him: don’t swallow him whole, the little fish needs to be recycled.
–
The corridor of the flat was smooth and clean, with no obstacles in sight. Yu Su decided to let go of the chair’s controls, and, just for fun, he started gliding the wheelchair down the hall.
When Wen Bie returned, he just so happened to see Yu Su spinning the wheelchair in circles in place. Meanwhile, the so-called aloof and unapproachable top-tier Alpha, Chi Yanxing, was staring intently at the Omega he had picked up, his face displaying an uncommon sense of relaxation and gentleness.
Wen Bie glanced again at the bottom three digits on the gene test report and thought to himself that the “chosen one” was indeed the chosen one. Even after years of hardship, fate had decided to give him the best gift as compensation.
“Mr. Chi,” Wen Bie raised the test report in his hand, “Congratulations, your AO match broke the record.”
