Chapter 19
At that moment, Lin Mingfei was at the administrative service center handling property transfer procedures. He had signed a bunch of papers, and there were still more to go. The mess left by Du Yong was quite complicated. At that moment, his phone suddenly buzzed in his pocket. Lin Mingfei pulled out his phone and took a glance, his eyes freezing.
“Sorry,” he nodded to the clerk at the counter, stood up, and walked to a corner to dial Xia Tong’s number.
As soon as the call connected, he heard a faint “crash” sound on the other end, like Xia Tong was trying to gather his emotions. It took a while before Xia Tong’s voice came through, weak and hoarse.
It was clear that Xia Tong had been crying, and Lin Mingfei was momentarily at a loss for words.
“You’re crying?” He asked, both surprised and cautious.
He hadn’t pointed it out yet, but once he did, Xia Tong couldn’t hold it in anymore, and burst into tears. “I didn’t mean to cry, boo hoo… I just couldn’t stop…”
Lin Mingfei was stunned for several seconds before he snapped back to reality, feeling both amused and helpless. “Don’t cry, don’t cry. Let’s talk this out. There’s no need to cry, sigh… Are you being silly?” He turned around, and the female clerk on the other side was clearly getting impatient, casting frequent glances at him.
“You, are you busy? Well, I’ll cry by myself for a while… Pretend I don’t exist… I—I’m hiccupping—” Xia Tong sobbed, hiccupping as he spoke in a pitiful tone.
Lin Mingfei felt his heart completely soften. He bit his lip, thought for a moment, and took out his Bluetooth earbuds, putting them in his ears. “Don’t hang up yet. I’m not that busy. If you have something to say, just tell me. I’m listening.”
“I… I don’t know what to say,” Xia Tong continued to cry. “I just want to cry… Wuwuwu—”
“It’s fine. If you want to cry, just cry. I’ll listen,” Lin Mingfei chuckled, already sitting back at the counter, quickly signing papers and handing over the documents. “Has anyone ever told you that your crying sounds beautiful?”
Xia Tong hiccupped through his tears and sluggishly replied, “No… no one has…”
Lin Mingfei muttered, as if to himself, with a teasing smile, “Well, now you know.”
Xia Tong’s cheeks grew hot from crying. “What’s the point of knowing that… It’s useless knowledge.”
“Who says it’s useless? If I’m ever upset, I’ll just make you cry. Maybe while you’re crying, I’ll feel better.” Lin Mingfei joked, his voice languid.
The crying suddenly stopped on the other end, likely because Xia Tong was shocked by his remark.
This tactic seemed effective, and Lin Mingfei laughed so hard that his hand wobbled as he signed the papers.
“I’m just kidding. I wouldn’t do that. By the way, what did you say earlier? Something about moving out?”
“Well… the person who’s been staying in my room… he’s coming back, right?” Xia Tong sniffled, his voice small. “Then the base people will all be together… I won’t have anywhere to stay.”
Lin Mingfei’s pen paused slightly.
He thought, so the little one’s mind finally clicked.
“The… the living room couch, can I sleep there?” Xia Tong stammered. “I really don’t want to move out… I don’t want to take up space, it’s just… I’m afraid I won’t be able to see you again…”
He paused, his voice full of reluctance and thick with emotion. “You’re really such a good person. I’ve never met anyone as good as you QAQ.”
Lin Mingfei’s breath caught.
A warm current surged in his chest, like his internal organs had melted. “Sleep on the couch?” He finished sorting the complicated documents, handed them over to the clerk, and gave her a knowing smile. Then, he turned to Xia Tong, speaking in a teasing tone. “You can sleep with me.”
Xia Tong dragged his words out, sounding confused. “Huh?”
It turns out, when the little Omega gets shy, he temporarily forgets about crying, and all that could be heard from the other end was Xia Tong’s uneven and slightly hurried breathing.
Lin Mingfei laughed even harder.
“Alright, stop crying. I promise you won’t be able to avoid me,” he said gently. “Don’t think about moving out or not. Just wait for me to come back, okay?”
“Okay…” Xia Tong’s mood lightened, and his voice regained some strength. He sniffed and realized his earlier actions—crying without a word—had been a bit foolish.
“I look so ugly when I cry,” he muttered. “What if Fire and the others see me like this?”
“Where are you now?” Lin Mingfei asked.
“In… in your bedroom,” Xia Tong replied quietly.
Lin Mingfei froze for a moment, then chuckled softly.
“It’s fine. They won’t dare enter my room.”
“Then I’ll wait a bit before going out. My eyes are a bit swollen…” Xia Tong said, lying on the washbasin and looking at himself in the mirror.
“There should be an ice pack in my room’s mini-fridge. You can use it on your eyes to reduce the swelling,” Lin Mingfei suggested.
“Okay!” Xia Tong obediently responded.
After finishing up the paperwork, Lin Mingfei got up from the counter and pulled out his phone to send a message to Zhou Yanjun.
Polaris_Zero: 【Fatty.】
Polaris_Fire: 【??? Why are you calling me Fatty too?! Did Xia Tong infect you?!】
Polaris_Zero: 【It actually feels pretty good to say. I’m not changing it.】
Polaris_Fire: 【F** your grandpa!!】
Polaris_Fire: 【Oh, by the way, Xia Tong’s been acting a little strange. He suddenly logged out of the game out of nowhere.】
Polaris_Zero: 【Did you say something weird again?】
Polaris_Fire: 【I swear! I didn’t even dare swear in front of him!!】
Polaris_Zero: 【He’s in my room. I just calmed him down. You can play with him, but don’t ask anything you shouldn’t, understood?】
Polaris_Fire: 【But I don’t know what I’m not supposed to ask!】
Polaris_Zero: 【Then just shut up.】
Polaris_Fire: 【…】
Polaris_Fire: 【Zero, why are you so fierce now?! You weren’t like this before!】
Polaris_Zero: 【What was I like before?】
Polaris_Fire:【You used to hate seeing me upset! You’d buy me huge family-sized meals and tons of happy drinks, gently cheering me on by my bed—】
Polaris_Zero: 【…Did I get drunk and mistake you for someone else? Like my second uncle?】
Polaris_Fire:【Lin Mingfei, f** your second uncle!!!】
Zhou Yanjun swore and shut off WeChat.
